Natural Wood Bindings

About This Item

Beautiful hardwood bindings are a natural accent preferred by many contemporary luthiers.

Each unbent strip is approximately 0.080" thick, 0.250" tall and 33-1/2" long (2.03mm x 6.35mm x 850.90mm). The optional triple lamination is .010"/.020"/.010" white and black fiber.

For matching top purfling, choose our Violin Purfling Set.

Note: Cocobolo is a naturally oily wood. For best results, clean with acetone and glue with epoxy or super glue.

These are high quality and very nice. They are really a quick way to get a real custom look without any extra effort over regular plain wood bindings.

I have always made my own maple binding but thought I would try something different. SM's wood bindings are easy to apply, easy to trim, take finish well and look good when done.

Curly Maple Binding

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought the curly maple with b/w/b trim for an OM model I am building. I bought several extras knowing I would probably break a few getting the hang of bending. I have only used plastic bindings in my previous builds. Sure enough...broke a couple until I figured out a steaming/bending process that worked great. These bindings are going to make my new Spruce/Mahogany OM pop.

Natural wood bindings

I have used SM's wood bindings and purfling for numerous instruments. Always accurate, solid, and high quality materials for good looks. Like most things I purchase here I have had no problems, only successes.

Perfect bindings

I use these bindings almost exclusively. I find them to be accurately and evenly cut, which, together with an accurately cut binding ledge, make for perfect bindings.

I bought the ebony wbw binding. i bought five strips and one of them broke during bending. Other than that i'm very pleased with them.

Perfect

I have purchased both the rosewood and curly maple strips, both of which looked great. It was my first wood bending experience, and I only used my mom's curling iron, some damp paper towels, and some aluminum foil. Yet, it still worked perfectly. I used the rosewood to bind the inside corner of my semi hollow build, making a cleaner looking corner. Now just on to the maple for binding the 'f-hole'.
