Build a fine quality guitar you can be proud of!

"People who saw the finished instrument were astonished that it came from a kit... Anyone wanting to begin a guitarmaking career this way won't be disappointed. All the components are high grade and meant to last a lifetime."
— John Calkin, American Lutherie

A hands-on course in guitar making.
We include full-size plans drawn by Don MacRostie, who designed our kits based on prized vintage Martins. The kits are adapted for the small shop so you won't need factory tools. We do the precision machine work, so you can hand build a great guitar.

We include illustrated assembly instructions and a FREE DVD, Building an Acoustic Guitar Kit! This DVD demonstrates the process in a way that would take a book to fully describe — and you can see what you'll be doing before you do it yourself. No other instrument kits give you this level of instructional detail!

These kits and instructional material are a solid introduction to guitarmaking.

These are great sounding guitars!
You get a bookmatched AAA back and side set, available in rosewood or mahogany. The AAA solid spruce top has been thickness-sanded and profiled. We've slotted the rosewood fingerboard, included pre-cut inlays and a genuine bone nut and saddle.

Choose a bolt-on neck or a traditional dovetail—both are machined for an accurate fit, saving you hours of complicated work. Width at the nut is approximately 1-7/8". Only the final trimming and sanding are required.

Included in the kit is a Hot Rod Truss Rod, to make the neck two-way adjustable.

Save time, save tools.
You don't need to tool up for critical machine work like side bending, shaping the neck and cutting the heel joint. You'll hand build and finish an heirloom quality instrument.

Solid AAA tonewoods: Spruce, rosewood and mahogany
Precision-machined neck joint
Precut heavy cardboard molds for trouble-free body assembly

You add the tuners.
From years of supplying kits to builders we know that you'll want to choose the finishing touches, so tuners and strings are not included. To personalize your guitar, see our selection for the steel-string tuning machines for slotted pegheads. Pegholes will need to reamed slightly to fit the Schaller tuners.

"What tools do I need to build a kit?"
Our experienced luthiers recommend the right tools to make your build easier and more professional: Tools for Building the Triple-O Guitar Kit

Customize your kit to be a left-handed instrument.
Though our guitar kits are intended for right-handed players, the soundboard bracing patterns can be reversed to build a left-handed instrument. You can make a left-handed bridge from scratch using one of our bridge blanks.

000 kit

I'm impressed with the materials and fit. It isn't finished yet but already the quality of materials is apparent. I chose the bolt on neck and I'm glad I did. It's nearly complete but I'm not going to rush. The mahogany is very nice, and the neck fit needs only the most minor of adjustments. The instructions were good, but I'd recommend also reading and printing the instructions for the Dreadnought as well and watching the video that comes with the kit as well and noting any differences in procedure. If in doubt ask Stew Mac for advice! I know that I'm going to make more than one so I ordered a guitar repair vise so I can work on finishing the guitar without compromise. The kit isn't cheap but the customer service is outstanding, factor that in and it is very good value. I have no doubt that when it is finished it will sound superb. Next will be the rosewood version!

I've just completed my first guitar after a two year period of working, as and when, time permitted. I am absolutely blown away by the sound and quality of this instrument. This is a dream come true for me and may this be a first of many more to come! Thanks Stewmac for your brilliant service, fast shipping and quality products. Easy and good sounding

Good materials and very clear instruction disc.
The instrument sounds good even if it is somewhat overbuilt. Sounds really great after rethicknessing the top.

My favorite guitar.

Lots of work, take your time, well worth it. Richer sound than my Martin DXM, won't be drowned out by my Gitane DG300,cutaway would be nice.

Top Quality Guitar Project

This is the second guitar that I have built. I highly recommend this kit if you are starting out. It's an amazing feeling to play an instrument you have made. Scalloping the braces and tuning the top will make this guitar sing.

Triple o guitar kit

My first ever internet order to America. DHL did a great job of delivery with excellent tracking, arrived in four days. Kit in good condition, when opened was very pleased with the quality and comprehensive instructions.Started to build, tricky in places but straightforward, one or two hiccups along the way but was pleased enough to order Waverley tuners to finish. I may order some bone pins to keep the quality up. The guitar plays exceptionally well and having built it I find that the final setup is the closest I have ever had a guitar to my playing taste. I enclose a photo nearing completion but I am sure you have seen one of these before.

Addictive

Built my first Guitar, a dreadnaught, during my attendance at a Luthier Guitar building course in July 2011. I have just completed my second and third guitars, the third being built from this kit with one alteration being that I used an Adirondack top. The result is superb and having quality tools (mostly acquired from StewMAc) means you enhance your chances of a great result. Guitar building can be addictive!

Excellent but know what you're getting into first.

Quality of the kit and customer service was excellent, but I unexpectedly and necessarily ended up buying specialty tools that cost more than the kit itself. Even though a newbie can complete the kit on their own, I highly recommend finding an experienced luthier to help with some of the more complicated procedures that will make a big difference between a so-so guitar and a great instrument.

Aside from that I'm more than pleased with the results and feel a great sense of accomplishment.
