Mini Air Pump

If you're buying the router base, you're probably here wondering if you really need this. Wear a mask, and get the pump. Health before wealth.

Brilliant! Re-purpose an aquarium pump and it keeps the router path clear and visible. Maybe you could buy a pump at a pet store cheaper, but this is well matched for its purpose and the price seems reasonable compensation for the simple brilliance of thinking this solution up!

It would make sounds like it was working but no air was coming out. So, out come the three screws that hold it together and there's a little piece of plastic that was broken, (probably in assembly), that held the motor in place. A little super glue and it's fine. Works great now. It's 15 bucks and it'll probably run forever.

I had hoped for a stronger stream of air. It attaches fine to the StewMac jig for the Dremel tool. It does what it is supposed to do: it removes fine dust. Actually: when you plug it in, you will be surprised that it works, because the stream of air is gentle. But since it is a small cross-sectional area, it actually works.

It was only after ordering this thing that I realized it was only a fish tank air pump.

I should probably have bought one in Australia, instead of buying this, along with a voltage convertor and a plug convertor.

On the plus side, the tube fits my dremel perfectly and this thing does a decent job.

I had problems with saw dust covering up the outlines on the inlay material when cutting inlays. The gentle air stream of this pump pointing directly on the cutting area keeps the lines always visible and speeds up the cutting process enormously.
This pump also works great hooked up to the router base when I route the inlay pockets on the fingerboard.
And it runs quiet enough so it's not getting annoying over time.
