Vivid natural color
Paua AbaLam Purfling
Natural paua shell (the most colorful abalone) is epoxy-laminated to create Paua Abalam. This is how the major builders create beautiful purflings with consistent color on instruments such as Martin's D-45 (also used by Taylor, Larrivee, Paul Reed Smith and most others). Much faster to work with than regular abalone. 3 long strips per package.
Width: .063" (1.60mm) Height: .050" (1.27mm) Straight length: 15.75" (400mm) overall; pieces are 5.25" (133.35mm) Curved length: 15" (381mm) overall; pieces are 4.75" (120.65mm) Curved pieces inside diameter: 4.921" (125mm)

An important feature of Abalam is that it breaks cleanly when fitting around tight curves. Can be shaped and sanded like regular abalone shell (sanding reveals new colors in the laminated layers).
Paua's color range includes intense greens, blues and purples.
Installation tip: use Abalam with our No-stick Filler Strip.
The charts below show how much purfling is needed for Dreadnought and Triple-O style guitars.
