Pearloid Dot

It has been increasingly difficult to get pearl and abalone across the border into Canada. These dots have proven to be a spectacular substitute. Once installed and shined they look identical to the pearl dots.

I've put many of them on cigar box guitars and on my custom resonator. Glue them with titebond to mask fingerboard screws and polish them with tong oil. Great.

These make up for the real deal. In my opinion they are a great substitution for MOP.

I recently used them when I replaced the fretboard on my son's guitar.

The picture might not be of the best quality, but it might give a hint of the look when installed.

Here in Oz we are not allowed to import MOP from the US. The local product is three star quality. It looks good but of uneven diameter & thickness. I bought some Pearloid Dots from StewMac to see if they would do the job better. They turned out to be of even diameter, even thickness, easy to finish, and half the price of the local product. Also, you can't tell the difference between this and real MOP in the finished instrument. As we say in OZ, I'm as happy as a stray dog on bin night.
