Same style string retainers that were used on a post '57 Strat®, Tele® and similar instruments.

Set of 2 includes: 2 string retainers with mounting screws, and spacers (short and tall). Use the short spacer for the E & B strings (many early instruments only used one string retainer for the E and B strings).

Pilot holes required:
Installing delicate screws such as these into hard maple requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend using a 5/64" bit for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

good trees but be cautioous

Make special note that you get two screws, two brackets, but the two bushings are different sizes. That's easy to miss. Also, yes the screws are delicate. I was replacing an existing "tree" on a Fender Tele (it was really just a bracket and screw, clamped down to the wood), using the existing hole, and as soon as the screw met some resistance it broke off. I've never run into that before, even with smaller tuning peg screws. The brackets are definitely better than the stock ones on my MIM Fenders, just be careful.

Do what they're meant to do

These help maintain tuning stability on a Fender neck. Worth the few bucks.

Nicer then what's generally available

Most of the trees I've seen of this style are flimsy tin type material. These are a step above. You need a 5/64" pilot hole on these, and most other string trees, as well as a bit of soap to ease them in. You should never have to muscle any screws in guitar building.

Does what they are supposed to do...

Its a string tree not much to say.. line it up make the spot pre drill the hole slowly and clean it then like all the screws I I use in a build put some soap wax chapstick or the like on the threads and screw it in back out a bit to clean then in till snug.. doesn't need to be close to tight at all..

Broken screw

As posted by others, the screw head snapped off with little pressure. I honestly felt like I was just making it snug and it fell apart. I expect better from Stew-mac.
