A good solid plastic I used for replacing a lost tremelo spring cover.Cut easily and the edges sanded and polished up easily. As always STEWMAC delivered very quickly to Australia. I've had stuff posted from the next State which took longer to deliver than the stuff I get from the USA.
This product is overly heat sensitive and will warp easily. I left mine in my car, no sunlight, just a warm car and it warped badly.
This stuff is good for a lot of guitar related things. I use it for pickguards (duh) and also for trem and control covers. This material is also great for jack plates. Just break out the heat gun and you can shape it easily for many different applications.
Though for this price you guys should ad the common uses for each thickness, like which one is used for a strat etc... because i was to dumb to measure what i needed it for and went with the medium and it was still very thin. I'm lucky i was making back plates because for a actual pickguard the 2.1 would be a must. So if your like me and don't know how thick 1mm. is, your welcome lol
I made a rough cut using a Dremel that slightly melted the edges, and then used sand paper and a sharp knife to final shape. I have plenty of excess to have on hand in the shop and the protective sticker keeps is looking new.
I bought this pickguard material, not knowing how great it is. It was just as i thought. I bought it for making a custom pickguard for a strat style body i had and it worked perfectly. Very durable, i would buy more again.
The material is great. I worked it by hand because I don't have a router. Cut out the design with a coping saw, hand sanded/rasped down to final shape, beveled with sandpaper. I scratched it up pretty bad but sanded the surface with 400 grit all the way to 1000 grit paper. Then I used a trick that we watchmakers use: Brasso. We use it to take the scratches out of plastic watch crystals. Rub, rub, rub. The pickguard looks like it was factory made.
From one sheet I've make two pickguards and a control cavity cover and I still have some leftover.
Great price and the product is well manufactured. Did I mention: GREAT PRICE. .O59" stock is a bit too flexible. Next time I'll purchase the .083".
I used this pickguard material on a complete rebuild. This stuff is easy to cut with a band saw to a custom shape. It also has a plastic film on it to protect it while you are working with it, don't take it off until it's installed or you could scratch it before you get to use it. The sheets are big enough to make pickguards for 2 guitars. I made a custom front pickguard and a rectangular back plate and only used about half of it. I'd buy it again for another custom pickguard.
