Weld-On Cement

Used this for my 1st complete binding job on a Tricone neck. Make sure the channel is clean & work in small increments, use the binding tape and/or rubber bands and you should get great results. I used a brush to better control how much went on and it worked great, but each brush was frozen stiff after about 5 minutes or so.

I've used this in the past with no problem except, the stuff absorbs into the wood. I would say this is great for repair work where the wood has something sealing the wood pours. On raw wood watch out for absorbtion into the wood. Also the aplicator tube is out dated. A syringe type applicator would be better. Also take warnings seriously, gloves, mask, and ventalation are important using this product.

Tried CA Gel first and didn't like the results. The Weld-On was much easier to use and not as messy. Good working time while still sticking.

This works great for both wood and plastic binding. Just wear gloves and use in a ventilated area.

I wont use anything else for my guitar bindings, it's easy to work with and bonds quickly.

I did a little test with this glue, with acrylic binding bought from Stewmac, and I have to say, it did not impress me. I feel that a CA glue has been stronger in my binding tests. I didn't really melt the material in the way it's been described too, and I gobbed it on. I feel like I'll probably do some more tests, but my first impression of the product was not too good.

I use to use acetone for binding lamination and Weld-On for gluing the binding to the guitar body. When I used two separate binding materials once the acetone did not adhere and separated so I tried Weld-On and regardless of binding plastic I had solid adhesion and it did not separate when heated to shape the binding to body shape. Also if necessary, this glue will release easily from body binding adhesion for adjustment with acetone. In addition this glue has a very thin fluidity and flows into desired areas with ease. Love this product.

This stuff really works well. But, the tube needs some rethinking. Too much glue comes out making it very hard to limit the amount that bleeds over onto other surfaces. A plastic adapter like you find with model cement would be a great addition to an otherwise fine product.

I used to use 'Weld-On' but because you cannot freight 'Weld-On' cement to Australia, I spent some time trying to find an equivalent here. I know that some luthiers in Oz are still experiencing difficulty getting good cement. I think I have the answer.

There is a product that has been sold here for years called 'Tarzan's Grip' it is acetone based and I have had great success with it. I make archtop guitars inspired by Bob Benedetto.
