Highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire
Narrow fretwire sizes were used on pre-World War II acoustic guitars and are used on modern banjos, mandolins, ukuleles and dulcimers.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs. Our fretwire tang is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Order 6 feet for a guitar or bass, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Easy to work with

I'm VERY new to fret work but I found this fretwire very east to work with and I'm happy with the results I got on my project.

Narrow fretwire

This is the first fretwire I have ever used. I built a custom acoustic guitar with 24 frets on an ebony fingerboard and it feels great with these mandolin frets. The only aspect that I did not like was its capacity for correcting the bend radius after cutting to working length. Attribute that to my beginner status which I have learned from and will not repeat. Beginners should not be afraid of this. Just ensure the bend radius matches the fingerboard before cutting to length and these go into the slot easily. The accompanying picture is the unfinished guitar.

Narrow/Low wire unusable

The Stewmac narrow low wire for banjo and mandolins is essentially unusable. The nibbers on the tang are rounded not tapered as they are on thicker wires and won't start in the fret slots. It is a very poor design!

Nice Match

This wire was used on an old inexpensive Stewart archtop that the owner wanted to be playable but left, as much as possible, in its badly worn condition. The new frets are tight and match the originals almost perfectly. I am very pleased with the result.

Fretwire

Great product. It will take some practice to master the art of installing on a compound radius fretboard, if like me you have never done this before. Buy extra to compensate for any mistakes. It also helps to notch the tang to assist in bending to the curve of the fretboard unless you want to spend almost a $100 for the FretBender.

packaging

A few weeks ago I ordered some fret wire[20'] and a mandolin tail peice it arrived a week or so later the box it was shipped in was 20"x14"x2.5" a big box for a little order which cost me another $6.00 to canada post because of the size. I think a small cardboard tube aprox 2.5" diamater would have done better at less cost to both of us. But I must say the fret wire and the tail piece are great

Frets that are the best!

I see that every part I buy from you fits very well, but these little frets saved me so much time on my recent mandolin repair that I had time to play it for a while and enjoy my work! Kudos, you guys are the best!
