Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Order fretwire by the pound for tidy savings!
Our bulk fretwire is supplied in convenient clear storage tubes, to keep your wire organized and your workbench uncluttered. You’ll save 50% or more when you order fretwire by the pound.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

Rejuvenated Fender mando

Acquired a Fender acoustic/electric mando that had poor factory frets. A complete refret with 0764 provided a surprising improvement in tone, clarity and playability. Very worthwhile.

Narrow fretwire for vintage repair

I ordered narrow fretwire for a repair on a vintage 4-string Vita-Guitar. It worked great. Having it come straight, rather than in coils made it much easier to use.

Not in love

I learned to fret with stewmac wire, but after trying others, I find that stewmac wire is much harder to install than others. Looking closer you can see that the angle between the tang and the crown is rounder than it could be, and the barbs themselves are somewhat rounder than they could be. This makes for a wire that is harder to press in and less likely to stay in. I love stewmac, but I am not in love with their fretwire - of any size. Loyal customer I will remain, but I will be buying my fretwire elsewhere.

It does what it is supposed to!

Take this review for what it is worth.

I am recently learning to play the banjo and I used this fretwire for the neck on a banjo that I built (1st one).

The fretwire was easy to install, easy to level and easy to polish. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, fret the strings to make music!

I am pleased with this product and I can't wait to build a second banjo!
