StewMac Medium Fretwire

This is the wire I put on all my custom neville guitars unless somebody specifies something else.I think this is the all around perfect height and width and top quality stuff

Used on a circa 1959 lesPaul style arch top, matched with perfectly seems a little tall for the age, but acceptable. the frets were cut by hand way back when but they were tapered... had to recut them all so the wire would work but that was expected due to the guitar. levels quick, polishes up to a chrome like gloss.

Top quality and size

Very tall wire great if lots of leveling is needed. May be too high for some folks as your fingers hardly will touch the board. It would be a 5 if it came pre-arched because it will flaten out nice after hammering in with a stew-mac hammer shown. I filed a saw to .023" and tite-bond to keep them in. It crowns and polishes up nice.

Placed an order for a second pound in about a year. I really like the action and feel of this wire. Tall but without a scalloped neck feel and wide but not so much as to feel imprecise. I've used it on standard six string guitars, classical and even cigar box guitars with equally excellent results. Its Dan Erlewine's favorite and I like it too (-;

My favorite frets! Respect!

Used on a partial refret of 1955 Gibson J50 with excellent results.

This is my favorite fretwire. Not too big, not too small. Cuts great. Perfect wire for smaller instruments!

I used this slightly wider and higher wire when re-fretting a Taylor that had similar wire installed. I really like the extra height, and the guitar's owner (who plays many hours a month) will benefit from more metal to dress in the future. My only issue was that this wire did not fit the .023 slot as claimed. The tang was fine but the barbs were so wide that I had to crimp all the barbs to prevent the neck from back-bowing. This is nice to know for the future when dealing with wide slots, but it was an unexpected development on this job. Otherwise, 4 stars.
