The file measures 9-3/8" x 5/8" x 5/32", with 5-3/4" filing edges, and has a comfortable rubber-coated handle. Available in either 150-grit or 300-grit.

Sold individually or SAVE when you buy the set of both files.

Diamond fret files are the best way to recrown your frets! Unlike traditional fret files, diamond files cut in both directions, they don't chatter or leave chatter marks, and the fret is smoother after crowning. These files are being used by repair shops and major manufacturers all around the world.

Our diamond fret files have concave cutting edges, one for medium and one for wide fretwire. Each edge is electro-coated with micro industrial diamonds. These super-tough abrasive surfaces round the frets more smoothly than standard toothed files, for cleaner filing without chatter marks. Because the diamond particles cut on the forward and backward strokes, you get better control over your work and the job goes much faster.

We offer three designs of diamond fret crowning files, each in two different grits. Diamond fret files are available in the traditional Diamond Fret File, the curved Offset Diamond Fret File, and the unique Dual-grit Diamond Fret File.

What grit do I need? If you're just starting out in fretting, we recommend the 300-grit files, as they don't remove too much material too soon — a mistake that many beginning fretters make. Even a professional will find the 300-grit file allows them to quickly get the fret properly crowned after only a few strokes.

Use the 150-grit when you need to mill-off lots of material in a hurry.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers and Fret Cutters. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Diamonds are my best friend

My first fret job was with one of those with removable burr fret files. My second through current fret jobs were with a diamond file. I can't go back to a toothed file anymore. Diamond files are faster and easier to clean up after. I would suggest the 300-grit. It cuts fast enough as is and leaves a fairly smooth surface (as far as crowning files are concerned). Sure it's a little pricey, but it makes crowning a piece of cake.

Accurate Quality Tool

The best way I know of to crown frets expeditiously and consistently uniform. A breeze to remove the scratches by using progressively finer grits of sandpaper. To sand the sides I wrap the sandpaper around my least favorite credit card. Lasts for years in professional use. WISH they still had the smaller size as well!

Diamond Fret File

This file makes very hard recrownings a simple task. Combined with the regular file (to remove the scrtaches) is the recrowning perfect tool.

Great for crowning and bevel blending!

This file recrowns frets superbly! Not only that, the safe ground edges are narrow enough to round and blend bevelled fret ends. Tilt the file slightly off centre to get right into the corners of the fret ends.

I like to recrown frets with the old-school 3 corner file but this is just as good and will be faster once you get the feel for it...

Great File

I picked up the 300 grit file, It works fantastic. Cuts quick and smooth and I appreciate the added length of this file in addition to the more than satisfactory build quality. Great job Stew Mac, I don't think I will re crown with any other tool ever again! If you are on the fence about this one, make the move and you wont be sorry.

Overall Great Tool

Bought the 300 grit file, works great. The only problem I see with it is that the filings get trapped in the file to often. Have to stop and brush them off every now and then. But overall great product.

300 grit

I used the standard file for years, and when I started using SS frets, I upgraded to the 300 grit diamond file. This file is above and beyone the standard file. I couldn't believe how much easier fret leveling and crowning became when I started using this tool. Highly recommended!

Very good tool

The first time I leveled my frets I recoiled in horror at the flattened mess I made and I knew re-dressing them with a 3 edge file was going to take hours. I bought this tool last year and dressing is a snap. Even when I have to be aggressive with metal removing to get level frets, this tool quickly restores a perfect shape. i wish it were a bit longer and I wish the 2 radii were marked on the tool for fast reference...but other than those petty complaints, this is a must have tool.
