Jaws2

This product worked very well, laying in frets with a pleasing evenness and requiring minimum hassle. Using the wooden cowls, I had only a little difficulty getting the top frets in (nearest the bridge). It's expensive for what it is, because the package includes three cowls ($12 a piece approx), but I minimized the cost by buying only one brass insert (flat, for classical/flamenco guitars). I can recommend it as a good piece of equipment.

I am re-fretting a 35 year old custom guitar, the Jaws2 clamp system allowed me to squeeze in the top frets near the sound hole without using a fret hammer - the wooden caul worked perfectly around the top braces. I was also able to use it on the fretboard using the jig recommended in the instructions. I give it a 10!

I used to hammer frets, but since using the Jaws 2 I am sold on pressing frets in. The frets go in quickly, nice and even with no loose fret ends. Pressing frets is also easier on the guitar (and ears) than hammering.

I am very satisfy, this tool made my job easier and fast.

Only barbarians approach a guitar with a hammer. The Jaws2 is a great and easy tool giving great results especially in combination with the FretBender.

Great concept but very rickety and frustrating in actual use. I would not recommend using this tool to refret an entire neck.

I haven’t actually used it yet but after inspecting it I know it will do a great job. I bought it to allow me to insert the frets that are over the sound board. I used to do this using a bag of led shot that I held inside the guitar to absorb the shock of the hammer. While it worked ok it was very awkward. I’m sure this tool will be a vast improvement. I also bought some extra blocks so I can customize them to the various styles of guitars I build.

The Jaws2 works awesome for pressing in fretwires to preslotted fingerboards. Two slight modifications I made were 1) putting a thin strip of doublestick tape between the insert and the insert holder to keep the insert from falling out of the holder, 2) ordering a flat press insert because the weird guitars I make have flat fingerboards and the Jaws2 package doesn't come with the flat press insert (cost under $5 right next to where you click on the Jaws2 order). Why would anyone hammer in a fret anymore? Just press the fretwire in tightly with your fingers, making sure the tang is sticking straight down and is not at an angle, and then press it in the rest of the way with the Jaws2 until the turns stop with firm hand twisting (don't twist it in as hard as you can because the vise is very powerful and can press the wire all the way through the fingerboard if you're Arnold. A perfect fret insert every time!
