Instructions
Stringed Instrument Lacquer is specifically formulated to accommodate the expansion and contraction of wooden instruments.

Stringed Instrument Lacquer finish has better resistance to cold-checking and scuffs than standard furniture lacquer. It's ready to spray with no thinning required, for faster finish build-up in multiple coats. This lacquer is designed for use on wood which has been sealed with Behlen Vinyl Sealer, or on unfinished wood.

One can goes a long way!
1 quart will finish 1 acoustic guitar body & neck.
1 quart will finish 2 entire mandolins.
1 quart will finish 2 to 3 solid guitar or bass bodies.
1 quart will finish 3 to 5 electric guitar or bass necks.
1 quart will finish 4 ukuleles.

Keep in mind there are many application variables: your spray gun adjustments, PSI used, how heavy the coats are applied, number of coats, and desired thickness on your instrument.

Great for Beginners!!!!

Being new to guitar building and finishing I don't have a lot of experience spraying lacquer. The Behlen lacquer seems to be very user-friendly. I use an HVLP gun I purchased from Lowe's and it is easy to get a smooth layer using it full strength to build or thinned down to 1 part lacquer and 3 parts thinner to use as a smooth or blend coat. Mixes well with pigments and stain and polishes extremely well. Dries very clear, even during the summer here in GA where humidity seems to be above 100% without using much retarder.

Behlen nitrocellulose

Man, this stuff is a must have for around the shop. It does throw off a heavy odor so watch out!! Great lacquer though!!!

Nice product

I have sprayed several types of lacquers. This is a nice clear coat as far as application and build. It also rubs out very nicely. It is admittedly a bit pricey, but in line with what you would expect if you have to mail order. This lacquer compares very well to the Lawrence-McFadden.

Stewmac and Behlin Lacquer

I have been a customer here since 1994. I really like Behlin Lacquer and spray everyday usually.

Behlem Lacquer

This is the best lacquer to use on a high end guitar. You do need to play with using the extender to compensate for the humidity in your area. i also found thining each coat makes for much smoother coats, less sanding inbetween. Please use an air mask. The fumes of this stuff will really get to you otherwise.
