Les Paul wiring kit

The right parts at a good price. Sound quality is right up there. You may need additional wire depending on your guitar & wiring options. Very satisfied.

Everything you need included

Everything you need comes in this kit.You will need to have some extra wire around if it is a new guitar with no prior wiring included.I would suggest to StewMac to include a little bit more wire for people like me who built their own guitar but as long as people know they may be required to have more wire around this is still a great wiring kit.

Good enough

You get everything you need to wire up an LP style guitar. My wife bought me a kit LP as a project, all was good except the wiring harness was a joke. This kit gives you an inexpensive way to add decent wiring, a little time consuming over a pre wired harness but a good value.

Pros and Cons

I used this kit to completely redo the electronics in my Cort Les Paul, as it was starting to cut in and out and turning the knobs created alot of fuzz and static.

Given that this kit was designed for the Gibson Les Paul, a few modifications were needed.

1. The kit did not come with enough wiring, so I had to use some existing wires along with the kit wires.
2. The pots were too wide at the base, so I had to widen the hole in the body of my guitar where all the pots sit. It was no big deal though, I only needed to shave a couple of millimeters in a couple of spots.
3. The hole where the 1/4" jack sits needed to be widened a tad as well. The jack that came in the kit was just a bit longer than the existing jack and it causes the jack to push up against the side of the hole when a cable is plugged in. I didn't mess with widening the hole though and the cable will still plug in, it just takes a bit more force than it should. If I took the time to widen this hole as well, I'm sure it would work better.

Those were the only issues I had though, but none of which had to do with the kit, it was the fact that I used the kit on a Cort Les Paul instead of a Gibson Les Paul like it was designed for.

Other than those things, the compoments all work great and my guitar sounds fantastic now.

not totally impressed...

First of all, the switch is a joke and second, the caps don't seem to do much. This is not what you want to put in a fine instrument, period.

You better be an electrician

Well, OK, I'm not an electrician I guess. I just used this kit to ruin my Les Paul. So now I have to spend more money to put my guitar in the shop to have it repaired, because now it no longer works. If you're not an electrical whiz, do not buy this kit, instead get one of the pre-wired kits from elsewhere. Part of this is my fault, but the alleged instructions that came with the kit totally sucked, no help at all to me. Total waste of time and money.

LP wiring kit

The parts in this kit are quality. My only gripe(s): It would have been nice to have a length of 2-conductor with shielding for the leads running from volume pots to the switch. (I purchased some 2-conductor with shield at a local electronics supply store. The ground was sturdier than SM's, and didn't fall apart at all). It was difficult to determine which wires went where - I wound up buying additional 28 gauge wire in different colors as well as 2 audio taper pots for the volume controls. SM's seemed to be ON or OFF without much taper. I found that the cap connections on your LP wiring diagram was unusual - I checked a Gibson LP a friend owns and saw the cap was soldered tot the same volume lug as the pickup hot wire, then to the center lug on the tone pot. The SM diagram shows the cap soldered to the ground lug on the volume pot.

The Parsons Street p'ups are amazing
