Poly-coated Pickup Coil Wire

Just what I needed to do hand built pickups

Went for it and decided that making a pickup was a doable thing. Of all the materials I believed I could skimp and scrap on, this was not one of them. Made a pickup from popsicle sticks, bolts, refrigerator magnets, and the help of an old sewing machine. First try and I got a beautiful, nasty (in a good way) sounding pickup. Be warned though- this wire is thin like hair. 3million miles of very fragile, electric, hair.

I have not tried any other wire but i think this one works.Fine. A little expensive thou.

the 43 awg wire works great in tele neck pickups...have also wound some custom strat pickups with the 43 awg wire...great quality

price doesnt get better but the quality gets worse. be careful though, the wire is VERY fragile.

I cannot get other wire easily, but the 43 gauge always gives me good results. (I use it mostly for unusual designs like "Q-Tuner"-style pickups, and hopefully transformer-based designs in the near future.)
This time some of it went into this 6-string fretless bass. The J-bass style pickups are dual humbuckers.

I have a TON of 42 awg, and while it's great for single coils, I can't fit more than 6k worth of wire on one. With humbuckers, I can't fit more than 4.5k wire per bobbin.

The 43 awg lets you put more wraps on the bobbin for more resistance. I might just start putting this on everything... now to figure out what I'm going to do with all this 42 awg.

The price is is pretty expensive per pound. There's wire companies that can sell for much cheaper per pound. BUT the catch is they have like a $150 order minimum. So if you're only doing like two humbuckers, it wouldn't make sense. Bulk wire companies can even sell purple enamel coated like the vintage stuff. Now that I like 43, I might shop around.

This was a great starter set though.

Feeds really smooth off the end of the spool. I use a 1" dowel and a rubber cane tip pushed snug against the spool to hold it in place. It's a lot of wire and oddly enough (no offense Stew Mac) a good deal. A lot of wire suppliers stop at 40awg and I've seen others cost more with shipping included
