Schatten Thumbwheel Controls

Yes, these are plastic and sort of delicate, but they work and sound fabulous and there is nothing else like them. I used these under the floating pickguard on a ES-165 archtop, hidden at the bottom end of the pickguard down near the bridge. You can't see them at all from more than two feet away and they are conveniently located right where your fingers rest. And, an archtop with a floating humbucker and no holes in the body or pickguard looks really apropos. Love these. Best product I've seen in a long time.

So i had a burny les paul custom which used to have a sustainer in the neck and thus only had a master volume and tone. not wanting to drill any further holes, I looked at various concentric pots but didn't find any of them looked good on it. So now i have these, they are smooth as heck to use, no fuzziness whatsoever, plus i get to confuse all my friends when i magically roll the volume down on the neck pickup by sliding my finger on the edge of the pickguard. An awesome product that is much appreciated.

These thumbwheels are smaller, prewired (hence quieter thanks to the sheilding), and less expensive than the ones I bought elsewhere. I paid almost twice as much for Thumbwheels almost twice as big that I had to wire myself. Never again! Save $ and get superior quality. Always shop Stewmac. Without the paper under the pick guard you can't even see them! They work great. There's a real tone difference. Eight solders, 5 minutes and BOOYA! Stewmac Rules!

Great for archtops and mandolins

This is the first set of controls that really stays out of the way on modern jazz guitars. You could probably use it in a custom flat top sound hole arrangement, as well. I wouldn't be surprised to find someone using it on a violin (under the chin rest?)or on a mandolin, either. The single control wiring diagram could be clearer, but the double wiring diagram is spot on. The tone control is fully functional and doesn't just attenuate the total sound. Worth the price since it ads to the total quality of a custom instrument.
