We've specified these CTS pots to feature a longer-life brass shaft and tighter ±10% resistance tolerance compared to CTS products offered by most other suppliers.

CTS precision audio taper gives you smoother and more accurate response than you'll get with economy pots. Crank your guitar up to 10 and the volume swells all the way—no abrupt flattening to choke your playing style.

Available with split shaft for fine-knurled (24-spline) knob, or with smooth shaft to fit a set-screw knob. A long-shaft 500K-ohm version fits Les Paul style carved-top solidbodies.

Each CTS pot includes a flat washer, lock washer, and two hex mounting nuts for custom height adjustment on a pickguard or control plate.

Split shaft, fine knurling

0.235" (5.95mm)
3/8" (9.52mm)
Solid shaft

1/4" (6.35mm)
3/8" (9.52mm)
Thread 3/8" x 32
Thread height 3/8" (9.52mm)
Thread height, long shaft 3/4" (19.05mm)
Required mounting hole diameter    3/8" (9.52mm)

Which pot value should you choose?
500K pots are standard controls for humbuckers, and 250Ks are usually used for single-coil pickups. A 250K gives a slightly warmer tone than a 500K, and bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Replacement Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers are also available.

Good riddins old Stewmac Pots!

I only made the mistake of ordering volume/tone pots at StewMac once when they had their old crap, which when used with their very own knob removing device, would pull the shaft right out the pot every time. Finally, they listened to their customers did something about this.

Values should be clearly stamped on rear

Great pots & very happy that StewMac now stocks them to such a high standard too, great brass shafts. But not being able to clearly read their value without deciphering the StewMac production code stamped is a big downside. Down the years when people come back to work on these pots they won't know what their values were without having to test each one. Otherwise these are amongst the best CTS available.

Value not stamped on pot.

I've always ordered my CTS pots from another source and I'm glad that Stewmac is now offering them, but, why is the value of the pot not stamped on the back of what you supply? My first order for cts pots from Stewmac came in today and I had to get out the multitester to check the ohm value of each one. It would be a plus to have them stamped with the proper ohm value so they can be easily identified.

It's about time!

Finally, quality pots available here!

They are a little stiff to turn, but I will take that over the loose Alpha Pots any day!

Too Stiff for Volume control

Can't spin the knob with my little finger - too stiff. Vintage style pots work better for me. The kind that you can see the shaft in the back side of the pot. What good is all this quality of you can't turn the thing with your little finger!

Great Pots

I have used the CTS 20% pots for nearly 25 years and always loved them. Once I tried the 10% pots there was no turning back, great CTS Quality and tighter spec tolerances are worth every penny.

The Best

There are other Pots which are probably tighter, finer etc., but they will cost from 20-40 dollars each and in a guitar or a tube amp whatever benefit they provide is not noticeable. In my Experience you cant do better than these solid brass shaft CTS pots.

When I started building guitars, and later on tube amps I tried to save money by cheaping on switches, pots, tube sockets, etc., but cheap pots and switches are a headache and more than not worth the effort, they will undermine all of your hard work. If your used to buying cheap asian pots buy some of these, before you even install them you'll be very impressed with the quality.

CTS pots - the real deal! Bought a pair of 500K and 250k split-shaft pots for a couple guitars of mine. Quiet, solid & good sweep.
