Pickup Kit for Jazz Bass

Read 7 Reviews   |   Write a Review

Build your own pickups for the classic Jazz Bass® sound, or wind them your own way for custom output and tone. This kit contains the vintage-spec parts you'll need for making bridge and neck position pickups.

Choose Alnico 5 or Alnico 2 magnets:
Alnico 2 magnets give a warmer tone and low end response with smooth, singing highs. Many builders use them in the bridge pickups of solidbodies.
Alnico 5 produces a brighter tone with a tighter low end and stinging highs. They're great for neck position pickups, to help keep the tone clear without getting muddy.

great deal

I have bought these from stew mac and from other suppliers. Stew mac gives the best quality and the best price. My suggestion for the builders is to try alnico 2 neck with alnico 5 bridge. I have 3's (similar to 2's) and when played in combo with the bridge 5 is a great slap sound...a store owner told me my $200 dollar base sounded better than the $900 brand name one. I cut down the covers to make "bikini" staps so you can see the pups

Pickup Kit for Jazz Bass

This is a great kit, it's easy to work with and the result is a quality pickup but the pole pieces could be shorter in order to have flush pole pieces over the bobbin

Just wound these up

I just finished winding these pups. They are very good, the slugs fit well not overtight, plus you have all that you need. The only downside is that you need to install the brass eyelets yourself.

Thank you Stewmac.

Great and wonderful kit!

I use this kit on a Fender Jazz bass Japan made, and really made this bass shine! Vintage, but very dynamic with great tone!

Worked like a charm

Not sure what happened to the other reviewer (although I suspect bobbin deformation due to over tight winding), but I had no problems at all.
Hand (scatter) wound to hot spec (8.7K and 9.2K) with 42AWG Heavy Formvar coated wire and had a perfect fit for both bobbins/covers.
These kits are great!

unaligment holes

I been building pickups for 3 years, two months ago I bougth a jazz bass kit, some thing was wrong, i asambled the bobbin and start to winding bouth bobbins, when i finished i putted in the covers and they didn´t sit well in the covers, ... i try again, and tray, stewmac send me new bobbins so i wait... waiting i mesure te bobbins, the magnet holes were moved almost half milimeter of the center of the bobbin, so the only i can do was make bigger holes on the cover, almost six milimeters of diameter, now they fit, but look ugly! I will buy new covers with no holes!
