Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers

Read 101 Reviews   |   Write a Review

We christened these exceptional humbuckers in tribute to the famous Kalamazoo address where the holy grail of pickups, the legendary P.A.F. (Patent Applied For), was born. Our Parsons Street™ humbucking pickups are closely modeled after an outstanding vintage P.A.F. set from our own collection. That sweet tone was just too good to keep to ourselves!

Instructions
Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers sweet vintage tone was crafted to vintage P.A.F. specifications:
• Nickel silver cover for tone transparency
• Original 1.97" (50.04mm) polepiece spacing
• Plain enameled AWG42 coil wire
• Black paper coil tape
• Wood spacer
• Choice of Alnico 2 or Alnico 5 magnet
• Nickel-silver baseplate
• Single-conductor braided shield output wire

Your choice of original-style magnets:
• Alnico 2 for warm tone with smooth highs and a soft bottom response.
• Alnico 5 produces a clear tone with more pronounced highs and a tighter low end.
(Original P.A.F.s contained Alnico 2, 3 and 5 magnets at various times.)

Neck models: mid 7K ohms
Bridge models: low 8K ohms

Just like the originals, the slug coil has more windings than the polepiece coil, and both coils are unpotted. Old P.A.F.s weren't made in separate neck and bridge-position models, and their DC resistance varied from 7-9K ohms. We give you a choice: Parsons Street neck-position pickups are wound to mid 7K, and bridge-position models to low 8K.

Best PAF Copy!

I've tried a lot of so called PAF copies, but none nail it like these. I strongly recommend using them with the Emerson Oil in Paper capacitors to recreate the entire vintage circuit. The combination is breathtakingly perfect. I grew up playing the real deal old Gibsons and these sound identical. No need to hunt down a pair for $3,000 and up. You will not hear a difference. Good for all styles of classic music, rock, blues, funk, country and JAZZ! These do it all to a T. Rich and bright or creamy and full, they can dial in any tone you want and make your guitar sound like the original vintage ax it wishes it could be. Love 'em!

classic humbuckers sparkle

Recently purchased 5408-s and got 2 for what Gibson gets for 1 classic 57! Alnico 2s have warmth for jazz w/ dished out mids, but can snarl for rock n roll.

Strat project

I put one of the Alnico 2 "neck" pickups in the bridge of my Strat that was loaded with Texas Specials. What a perfect match! Was out of phase, but an easy fix. The mini-toggle gives me all 7 pickup combinations. The sound is exactly what I was looking for. AND it sounds even better than I expected combined with the single coils. You have got to give these a try!

Golden Age Sound

I decided to give the Golden Age a try in my latest build. A single bridge pickup was a bit of a gamble.

As it turned out, I could not be more pleased with the sound produced by this pickup...For me, it is a keeper.

Super Pickups

I don't write many reviews but these pickups are so great I just had to do it! I have used Gibson, Seymour Duncan and other pickups and these are some of the best I have heard. You simply can not beat these at any price. Do yourself a favor and give these a try - you won't be sorry!

TONE!

I have a guitar that plays great, it just didn't sound great. I took a chance on these pickups to get the vintage sound of an old Les Paul with the exquisite playability and lighter weight of the PRS. Mission accomplished! These pickups are WARM and SMOOTH. I chose the Alnico 5 neck and Alnico 2 bridge. These things were a great value. Thanks Stew-Mac!

Tone snob

I've put these in about a dozen custom builds (Alnico II, V and mixed sets)....everything from archtops to solid and chambered bodies since Stew Mac came out with them. Our tone snob shop test pilot loves them. They have a true vintage tone and the value can't be beat. Modern Gibson pups can't touch them.

Hot-Rodded a Kit Guitar

I used the matched set of these pickups as part of a hot-rodding story on a kit guitar I built for my site. They dropped right in and made a huge difference in the sound and volume. Great pickups, lots of sound and a very good price!
