Golden Age Hotwired Pickguards

I bought a used MIM Strat with the idea of hopping it up. One of those steps was the Golden Age Chipguard that came with the Stewart-MacDonald pickups and top shelf wiring, pots and switch. The sound is WAY better, the volume is much greater and I can go from super full tone to heavy distortion with ease now, something Icouldd not do with the stock pickups. I am very impressed!

I purchased a Fender Squire Strat at Goodwill for $25. I installed the black on black, Golden Age prewired pickguard, and wow did that little Strat come to life! Sounds like a guitar costing hundreds and has a great vintage vibe. Thanks Stew Mac for a great product.

I've installed the Golden Age Hotwired Pickguard on my assembled guitar. The sound is simply fantastic! Assembly is fast and easy. Nice and fast service by StewMac, as usual. My band mates where amazed by the new sound of my guitar!

When I mentioned to the Guitar tech at my local music store that I was hoping to restore my 16 year old Peavy Falcon Custom, He simply said "StewMac,type StewMac.com into your computer." I did it and thanks to a prewired Golden Age pickguard ( that I actually held in my hands a day and a half later!)I don't have to pretend that I know how to rewire a strat style guitar and a sad bird with badly broken wings is soaring again !

I never fully realized the differences between American made guitars and their cheaper made Asian counterparts. I get it now, after actually comparing what came out of my brand new Squier CV 50's Strat to this Golden Age Hotwired Pickguard. Adding this product to the Squier was simple as advertised, cosmetically pleasing, and has given this budget Strat a tone that is even better than that of my Fender AVRI 57 Strat. Good Stuff. PS....My 5 way switch works great without any rework.

The only sounding pickup was at the neck.

After some time trying to see if the wires were set up wrong, i discovered that the little copper pieces that touch each other when you select a position, were not even touching.

They're not bended enough to touch, or at least to do it continuosly. The only pickup that was working was the neck pickup, the bridge pickup was intermitent, and the middle didn't work at all.

I had to bend inside that copper pieces a little more than they were, now the pickups sound as they should, but i'm not still confident. That made me go and look for a better quality pickup selector. I have a 1985 strat with the original piece and has never given me problems.

Apart from that, the wiring seems to be in really good shape, and as far as I could test, the neck pickup sounds really good.

The aditional wiring is easy and you can be rocking in no time, as long as the pickup selector works. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for a decent one in the next pickguard kit, just to avoid buying another piece that i shouldn't buy again.
