Even better than Duncan Designed

I Installed these on a new Squier VM Jazz, risking it to see if these pups would sound better than the stock Duncan Designeds. MUCH better sound. I think the difference is that the DD's are dipped in wax, and the Golden Age's aren't, so there's a little more clarity. Consequently, if your bass isn't shielded from EMI, you may hear more of the 60 cycle hum. . .

It's a new Golden Age

After nearly six years of fiddling around with modifications, tweaks and replacements that invariably ended in some degree of frustration, it was the installation of StewMac’s Golden Age pups and associated pots that finally produced the sounds that I knew existed somewhere within my Fender Jazz Bass. Not only am I absolutely delighted with the result, every point of contact with StewMac - by phone when ordering; by email with Tech Service to clarify a minor question, swiftly and satisfactorily answered; and, in my case, a coincidental but fortunate chance to visit to their office in person - was first rate. Friendly, knowledgeable and courteous staff, coupled with high quality, good value parts, collectively shone as compelling examples of how to do business. In short, my experience with StewMac was a genuine pleasure from start to, well, I would say “finish” but I will certainly be buying again - most likely when I pluck up the courage to fettle and fit a new nut one day. ;-) Well done StewMac. You have another very happy customer here.

Good choice!

These pickups worked just as what I expected. I put them on a cheap SX jazz bass and now it sounds nearly like the original.

Very nice

Just finished building a jazz bass kit, the pups that came with it sounded like a cat wailing under wet concrete.. got on line to Stewmac and found these pups. AWESOME! The tonal range and warmth is spot on for playing blues. Well done Stewmac, another quality item!

Perfect vintage tone

Dead on sixties J-bass tone, if you want to nail that R&B sound that never goes out of style or gets old!

Very Nice Set Up

I was lucky to pick up a 1998 MIM jazz in virtually new conition, I agonized over the pickup selection and weighed the input from a number of sources. I selected the golden age set primarily because of the reputation for quality components that stew/mac is famous for. I had a tech install the pups because I wanted a practiced eye to evaluate the inards of the contol cavity during the installation. His comment on the quality of the golden age pick up set was "very nice" and his eyes shot up when I told him what I paid.
As I have an American Jazz at home I was eager to compare the two. I have played the same tune at the same tone settings on each axe and I have to admit, I am actually partial to the MIM strictly due to the classic smokey sound that I get from these beauties. Well worth the money, quality, no nonsence product from a top notch supplier. Now I have to decide which is my favorite......

golden age jazz bass pickups

Gigged with these all week...here's an update...these dead nuts nail late 60's early 70's pickups...they don't sound different, warmer, brighter, or hotter...if you know what a bass from this era sounds like and are looking for that, these are the ones you need, the only exact replica i've ever heard, other pickups sound good but don't replicate this sound

golden age jazz pickups

In between fender original 60's and duncan vintage jazz...not as bright, airy, and vintage "messy" as the fenders. Not as thick, but slightly brighter than duncans. All good pickups which i use. Golden age has a nice piano tone with pleasing bottom, still vintage sounding.
These are NOT second rate pickups...trust me, playing music is my living. Went in a medium weight jazz w maple p neck
