It won't chip the finish, and it's semi-fluted to help keep the hole round.

The 3/8" shank can be chucked in a hand drill for slow reaming. The upper 1" cutting length is 1/2" diameter; the 1" center section is 15/32" diameter, and the lower 2-5/8" section has a standard 5-degree endpin taper to 1/4".

Professional tool

This is a great tool that does the job perfectly every time.
It is not cheap, but it pays itself back very quickly in a professional workshop.

You need this

If you are interested enough to be reading this review, then you definitely need this reamer. I vacillated for weeks trying to decide whether to order it, because the reamer seems quite expensive and I don't need to do this operation very often. But five minutes after receiving it, I knew getting it was the right decision. It does the job quickly, precisely, and easily. Just follow the directions. In my case, my first project didn't involve expanding an existing end pin, but creating a new jack hole. It was quite simple to drill a 1/4" hole, vastly easier than drilling a 15/32" or 1/2" hole, and from there it was duck soup to ream out the additional material.

However, I've given this reamer four stars instead of five, because the end of the reamer is a cylindrical shaft. This is fine for putting into a power drill chuck, but in my case I'd rather ream by hand. I wound up using a bit brace, but I would have preferred an easy way to attach a handle. Perhaps a cross-drilled hole or a flat side would make this easier. However it is a minor complaint and the reamer worked flawlessly with a bit brace.

Where have you reamed all my life?!

I decided to finally go ahead and splash out on this specialized tool. I should have splashed out two years ago!
What used to be a 20 minute job of creating a perfect hole for an endpin jack is now a 1 minute job.
I just had to install a Baggs Anthem pickup in a Martin Benezza Bianca, and I could do it with confidence.
I LOVE this reamer. Thanks Stewmac!

Precision drilling

If you're fitting end pin jacks in acoustic guitars this reamer is just the very best tool for the job. No risk of damage to the finish and it cuts quickly

reamer

Great tool and cuts well although I would prefer a `t` handle instead of using it in a drill.

Great Tool

This tool, along with Guitar Player Repair Guide, made installing a pickup in my Martin a piece of cake. Take from Dan Erlewine himself, jobs like this are always easier when you use the proper tools.

Reamer

Expensive - but I would not attempt an endpin installation without it.
