Beard Sider Cone

Compared to the stamped cone my 30´s Regal had,the Beard has improved the sound. I´m curious to hear if the sound will mature over time.

Great sound

I've put it in my custom built resonator guitar. Gives a warm and sustained sound. 1/4" higher than the economy model. Used a premade biscuit from Stewart-Macdonald. Great packaging. No worries with shipping. Thank you Stewmac!

new cone, new sound

I had the Beard cone fitted to my elderly resonator, and it is transformed!! The new cone is so much brighter, and more sensitive than the old one, I now have a mew instrument!!! This is the best investment you can make to awaken the potential of your reso !!! Thank you StewMac....

Great upgrade

I purchased a Dobro Hound Dog a couple of years ago. Yes, it's an Asian import, but it had a nice, sweet woody sound to it. I upgraded both the cone and spider bridge. It made a huge difference in tone and volume. Well worth the extra money. Both parts slipped in with no adjustments necessary, well at least not to the cone or spider bridge. I did need to do some minor fitting work to get the saddle to the right height. Nothing serious, though.

Resonator Guitar Upgrade

I purchased a second hand Fender FR50 resonator guitar for a very low price knowing from reviews it was never going to give me anything close to a National Triolian sound, and it didn't. I read Dan Brooks article on this web site on setting up resonators and decided to strip the FR50 down. The construction quality inside was surprisingly good. However the quality of the cone, spider and saddle left a lot to be desired. I purchased a 10 1/2" Beard resonator cone and an ebony topped maple saddle from Stewmac and a lighter more easily adjustable spider bridge from a guitar shop in the UK. I followed Dan Brooks article to the letter and finished the setup with a new set of Martin 13/56 Blue Grass strings.I am absolutely blown away by the result. I reckon I now have the best sounding Fender FR50 anywhere. The volume, tone and sustain are superb, due in the main (I'm sure) to the Beard cone. The total cost of the guitar including the upgrade is still under $300!

Resophonic Long Neck Banjo

I choose the Beard Spider Bridge Cone over the Biscuit style for that more of a Dobro sound. It was just what was needed for my Resophonic long Neck Banjo project. This added to beautiful inlaid neck and the resonator brakets really brought it all together. It looks great and sounds great.

beard reso cone

used to replace a cheapo cone in a hohner resonator. the difference is truly dramatic.the guitar has gone from dull and lifeless,to a true reso sound,at a very realistic price.I highly recommend beard cones, and stew-mac.

WOW!!!

I heard plenty about Beard cones and how great they are... Well, they are! I recently picked up knockoff Dobro that had a less than impressive sound. I literally dropped the beard cone in and POP it woke up. Granted, there is the usual amount of tweaking needed to get things right but I can not say enough good things about this cone. Imagine the only problem with your Resonator Guitar is that it's too loud.

buena calidad del cono y sonoridad, solo que mi luthier me dijo que tenia mala terminacion en los bordes, eso me trajo un gasto adicional de 35 dolares rectificarlo, ahora quedo bien

Unsurpassed Tone and Bass

My cheap roundneck resonator import just turned into a higher profile guitar thanks to the Beard Cone. When the set up is done and strings are back on place, the difference is already noticeable: The sound is bassier and high notes on the 12th fret and beyond sound clearer. The full power of the cone will be achieved as the guitar is played throughout the upcoming weeks and the cone fits more and more the structure of the guitar. It already sounds good, it will get even better. Let down: The cone is very thin and fragile. Its easily bendable. Use caution setting up your guitar. It may not fit your guitar for some minor inches - in my case 0,07 inches/2 mm. Again, use caution and steady hands, and trim around the cone to obtain a shape that fits inside your guitar without forcing it, otherwise it will bend. Overall: It is worth for the difference of sound you obtain in your resonator guitar and get it closer to a real Beard or National.
