These little suckers are the very best value around. They look great and they do the job perfectly, positioning themselves so that the strings never touch the vellum. Although there's a universe of tailpieces available, there's none that does its job better than this one. And Stew Mac, often accused of being expensive, sells 'em cheaper than anyone else!
I use a lot of these for small ukulele banjos but that's about all the use that I find for them. cheap & light is what I want on a little uke and it does that fine. I almost always attach them using a dome-head woodscrew through the back with a suitable length piece of nylon tuning to act as a stand-off.
This is a high quality tailpiece for the price. I used it on a banjo ukulele for a friend. It made a very nice installation. I would have made it with one long slot for the strings to go through instead of the 5 little holes. That would have made it easier to restring the instrument, as the strings wouldn't have had to be unwound from the tuners to put the beads through the hole. In any case that doesn't affect it's looks or function. The only picture I have of it is before the installation.
I like these tailpieces because they can be used on 4 or 5 string banjos. They cover more than a no-knot tailpiece does. I like to get the down pressure from the angle of the heel cut than from a screw down tail piece. I have used these for 30+ years.
