Quick fix for a worn bridge plate

Plate Mate

Read 11 Reviews   |   Write a Review

The Plate Mate guards against the eventual wear of ball-end strings on the bridge plate holes beneath the soundboard. It helps prevent costly bridge plate replacement. This simple .032" brass plate is held in place by the strings and the supplied adhesive backing. Players have also noted enhanced tone and improved tuning stability after installation.

Plate Mate

Love it! Dead simple to fix on... just got to stick the plate via the soundhole to get to the underneath of the bridge with the high & low E bridge pin inserted as a guide. Now the D28's volume & spectrum is slightly boosted and enhanced. Order the plate in accordance to your string spacing and there you go...

Plate Mate Review

Cheap, easy and fast fix for a worn bridge plate, tunning stability is great, sound is not improved to my ears, sounds much more 'metallic/brassy" with less bass, more trebly, with a lot of overtones on open notes. Good temporary fix to my D-35.

Plate Mate review

Good cheap fix for a chewed up bridge plate, It do the job, stability is great. Sound is not improved in my case, less bass response, and it adds a lot of "brassy/metallic" high end to my ear. Same issue using a piezo pickup. Tested on a Martin D-35.

Pricey but good kit.

I bought a plate mate for my Martin 000CXE that sufffered with bridge ache. The little piece of brass plate is costly but it made a great difference to string anchoring and even improved sustain. Best of all,I soldered a ground wire to it to connect the strings to the power jack and got rid of that &#$ buzz.

another benefit

I use plate mate as a grounding device
to reduce noise, in a acoustic guitar
pu system, when you touch the strings.
just connect plate mate to ground on
the switchjack endpin.

Really useful product.

I added a plate mate to an old Silvertone 621 guitar I am restoring and converting to left hand. Not only does it improve the sound and tone of the guitar, but it really adds stability to the string end and helps in tuning as well. Of course it will also protect the wood from being gradually chewed away by the string ferrule. It was easier to install than I thought. Highly recommended for any acoustic.

Plate Mate fixed it!

I have an old S S Stewart jumbo acoustic that the bridge plate was worn and the strings almost came back through the holes. The windings near the ball ends were at the saddle and it was a problem. Adding this plate and doing the extra ball end to each string has fixed it and I think improved the sound as well. I wonder if the plate was a little thicker if I wouldn't need the extra ball end. Just a thought but it worked for be, beats having a new bridge plate installed!!!!

Economical Repair Solution

I have used a few of these for cost-effective repair solutions. Easy to install and makes the customer happy.

My only complaint is while there is a spacing available for every guitar I have needed one for, they don't make one for the C-shaped layout you find on some guitars like some Taylors.

Plate Mate is great

I bought a well used 1977 Alvarez 5056 and the bridge pin holes were so chipped out on the bottom I could not tune up some of the strings without the pins popping out. I ordered a plate mate and some new bone bridge pines. The plate mate was easy to install and that solved the problem. The combination of the bridge plate and the bone pins that I purchased from Stewmac made this guitar sound every bit as good or better than my two Gibsons or my two Breedloves.
