Tusq Saddle and bridge pins

I have been playing acoustic guitar since 1965 and doing set up and minor repairs since 1973. I installed the Tusq saddle and bridge pins on my Guild GV-52 as an experiment to see if the sound would improve over the old cow bone saddle and buffalo horn pins I had previously installed. The sound change was very subtle. Nothing dramatic at all. I would describe the difference as a bit warmer and less bright than the bone. Also there was a slight drop in volume and clarity when finger picked.. The guild still has beautiful tone but I prefer the sound of the tried and true natural materials to the synthetic Tusq. Maybe I'm just old school. My dog however prefers the Tusq, hoping that I will stop cutting up her old cow bones.

Tusq Bridge Pins

I had a Dalton Acoustic guitar that was too tight and needed some tone shaping. I took it to a local luthier and he recommended these bridge pins. He installed the pins and scalloped the bracing and wow, what amazing sound. I bought a set for my daughters Martin DM and the sustain has increased and the sound is more dynamic. Every guitar could benefit from a set of these if not already installed. A real value!

new sound for a old guitar

After buying a new Martin, my thirty one year old Alverez sounded a little dull. My options were simple,a new vintage bone saddle with a set of Tusq bridge pins. When I received my order, I removed the new pins to inspect them. One of them fell onto the table and the sound it made surprised me.

These were not a plastic product. When I finnished the new saddle and changed the strings using the Tusq bridge pins the results were amazing. The pins fit without any modification and the whole prosses was very quick. The sustain was grately improved and the tone was spot on. This only improved as the new strings broke in. I am hooked on this very simple improvement and will be modifing all of my acoustic guitars with this product.

tusq pins

OK the second set of these pins are in and the results are the same;great tone, harmonics and sustain. This set went into an Epiphone Dove. This guitar, like my Epi. Hummingbird Artist, will also be getting a "Tusq" trem nut. These work extremely well together and increase every aspect of sound by ten fold.I am still waiting for some at 3 degrees for Martins and a compensated saddle for Epiphone, the current ones "Tusq" offer are around an 1/8" too short unless you get the blank. Of course everything comes from Stew Mac. Good job guys

Tusq pins

Fantastic pins;dropped right in an Epiphone Hummingbird Artist and fit better than the stock pins!I also installed a Tusq trem nut at the same time and the sustain went from a snare drum to a violin! When I finish this review I'm ordering more;I hope they will make these to fit a Martin soon.
