“Tap tuning” is the art of adjusting the resonant frequency of each wooden component to an ideal harmonious pitch.

Well-known for his studies of instrument acoustics, Siminoff guides the builder through the process of adjusting the soundboard, back and air chamber for a rich, sonorous voice. The goal: building acoustic stringed instruments with consistently good tonal response. A 50-minute DVD is included to demonstrate the procedure and help you identify the tapped tones.

The principles in this photo-illustrated book can be applied to most stringed instruments: mandolins, violins, guitars, ukuleles, pianos and more.

Tap Tuning 201

This book/dvd, in my opinion, is not for the beginner but is very good information. If you have done tap tuning before then you will have a much better idea of what the author is talking about and why. He never really goes though a complete tap tuning session on an instrument start to finish so you will not really learn how to tap tune. Lots of good theory and techniques are discussed as well as how to use strobe tuners in your tap tuning sessions. Great book if you want to use strobe tuners to tap tune your instuments.
