By Manuel Rodriguez
Fascinating reading—a legendary luthier's perspectives on influential classical guitars and the Spanish guitarmaking tradition. The renowned Rodriguez family has been handcrafting artist-quality instruments since 1905. While not a step-by-step construction book, this volume offers historical insights on tonewoods, varnishing techniques, tools, fret scales, classical Spanish bracing patterns and more. The evolution of the classical guitar is showcased through concise biographical profiles of the great Spanish luthiers. 176 pages, softcover.

A wonderful book!

My son and I are more then pleased after reading this book. We loved the fact that it has not only information about the making of the guitars, but also the history of the family who makes them... We recommend this book everyone!

A great personal account

This book was very interesting as Manuel Rodriguez Senior gives his personal account of the hardships, friends, and dreams of those who would leave a legacy to the music world regarding the Spanish culture and the guitar at the center of it. Minute details are given and a broad understanding are given by Manuel. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to know more of the history of classical and Flamenco guitar, Spanish culture of the times, and the music as told from someone who was there.

A practical manual on guitar making? NOT BY A LONG SHOT.

This book is nothing more than a historical document on the art of building classical guitars in Spain throughout the 20th Century. IT OFFERS ALMOST NO practical information about bracing patterns, woods or varnishing. I am writing this review because I bought the book with false expectations and was extremely disappointed.
