Slotted Fingerboard for Gibson® Guitar

Read 51 Reviews   |   Write a Review

24.562" scale • 12" radius • 24 slots

Note: Gibson® guitar scale is commonly referred to as 24-3/4" but is actually 24.562". This is the most common of three different scales described as 24-3/4" by Gibson over the years (see Details). Many Gibson's have alternate scale lengths—please measure your guitar before ordering!

Tip: For 20-fret necks, simply cut off the four highest slots.

Gibson® 24-3/4" scale changes over the years
The Gibson 24-3/4" scale is one of the most common, and most confusing of all scale lengths-this is because it rarely ever measures out to be 24-3/4 inches! This scale has gradually changed over the past fifty or so years due to changes in production equipment.

Learn more about scale length and how scale length affects tone.

Our kiln-dried fingerboards have flat undersides, are unfretted (no inlays), and ready for trimming to fit a variety of neck widths.

Approximate dimensions: 2-3/8" x 18-1/2" x 15/64" (60.32mm x 469.90mm x 5.95mm)
Scale: 24.562" (623.87mm)
Radius: 12" (304.80mm)
Fret slots: 24 slots, 0.023" wide (0.58mm). Ready to accept our fretwire.

A note about ebony:
Ebony is usually not uniformly black. We offer Black Fingerboard Stain, as used by Gibson®, Paul Reed Smith® and other makers, for darkening the streaks on ebony fingerboards, bridges and peghead overlays when desired.

Forgiveable Fingerboard for first time buyer

I am new to all of this, so I was very apprehensive of the entire fretting process from selecting frets to fretboard. The fretboard I chose needed to be shaped to a ES125 neck. That was a stressfull endeavor, however, it came out perfect. The frets needed to be radiused and luckily I have a freind with the bending tool. All I needed to do was hammer them in. About 1/2 way throught the rebuild I realized that the guitar needed to be painted black to cover all of the rebuild blemishes. The fretboard took the black stain (sold here) very well, and after two coats is comparible to a real gibson fretboard. The side dots almost gave me a nervous breakdown after missing the mark with the drill, however, because the wood is soft, I discovered I can spin the drill bit by hand to drill a hole that is plenty deep to hold a dot. I used a toothpick to fill the mistake and dyed that black. The end result looks like a pro job. I will be buying fretboards and frets from Stew Mac in the future.

Quality

Great rosewood fingerboard. The slots were cut well and the radius was flawless and the board smooth, and i saved a heap of time and money buying it.

Newbee

I am a techie with a very strong Auto background. Been playin since 11. The first board I got was fine but the project turned out so well, I called them for a replacement ebony. They were so nice I was stunned. Sent the other one in, and the new board they sent me was perfect. Thanks for your professionalism Stew Mac.

Thanks for making it possible...

Thanks to Stewmac's exellent stock of all kinds of necessities for giving life to "dead" instruments. The opportunity to play "Dr Fronkensteen" for a moment and say "It's aliive!!" is awesome. Quick delivery and easy purchase made my effort worthwhile. A full headstock rebuild successfully finished. New projects, refretting my old 75 squirestrat, a home made tele body combined with a fretboardless maya neck is waiting. Not to mention what the future might bring. Thanks again....

The review: I simply can't find any complaints about the quality of the slotted fretboard, can't expect it better.....
