Swamp Ash Body Blank

My first fully hand-made and crafted electric guitar. I love natural wood and this is a nice example!

I purchased a Swamp Ash Body Blank in order to satisfy my taste for the ultimate sound and to showcase my handywork. What I recieived from Stewmac was a perfect 2 piece Blank with beautiful figure to the grain. It was also nice and light weight. The best was still to come when I got to string up and hear all the characteristics that I was hoping to achieve. Thank you for supplying such a wonderful product. I will definitely be purchasing again and recommending Stewmac!

I have built and played many great guitars from Stewmac's Ash bodies and think they are of great quality and sound. For a 2 piece body their grain doesn't always match perfect, however without tracking down and hand-picking one-off pieces individually, these do the job nicely.

I agree with the previous reviewer in most parts. The wood have a nice grain pattern and the joint is nicely done. However there is no way that this can classify as “swamp ash”. I am very well aware that there is no specie that is called swamp ash and therefore open for discussions.

However I have received a body blank that weight in on 4.6 kg/10.1 lb! On top of that the tap tone is a dull “thud” and not the ringing open airy tone I expect from “true” swamp ash. I have bought swamp ash bodies from SM before a they have been significantly lighter, making for example one of the lightest telecasters I have ever experienced, even though I have the added weight of a Bigsby on it. This will make a heavy 70’s style Tele body and should never have been advertised as swamp ash in the first place, rather as standard weight ash to separate it from heavier pieces.

So I’m sorry to say but this item is, as it was advertised as swamp ash, sub standard.

You won't get a better piece of ash for this price. The only way to make this any more user friendly would be if it would read your mind and carve itself.

If you are needing of a ash body blank don't think twice just buy from stewmac store that you will be happy with the quality of the product. This is the best online store that i ever bought!

I bought a 2 piece ash blank to use for a Telecaster. No planing was required. Lightweight (for ash). and the grain was matched up perfectly, this is going to be a nice guitar.
