A note about ebony:
Ebony is usually not uniformly black. We offer Black Fingerboard Stain, as used by Gibson, Paul Reed Smith and other makers, for darkening the streaks on ebony fingerboards, bridges and peghead overlays when desired.

Nice piece of timber

Perfect match against the ebony fretboard I also ordered, only slight discoloration. Had enough material left over from the headstock to use the scraps for a few decorative body inlays.

Good but Expensive

I have found the Ebony peghead overlay veneers to be of excellent quality but quite expensive compared to milling my own from blanks.

Rosewood Veneer

The veneer came a lot bigger then i exacted. Would be enough for most pegheads and maybe some 12 string pegheads.
I asked for the darkest one they had and i got an almost black piece with a beautiful purple shade to it.

Shot in the dark

I'm not a fan of ordering wood parts with out seeing or hearing them first. Its really a shot in the dark, but time and time again stew mac delivers the best looking wood products. I can rest easy knowing the product is going to be as good as or better than one i would hand pick at a lumber yard or wood store.

This makes replacing peghead veneer easy!

I bought a piece of this rosewood veneer to replace damaged veneer on an old Vega banjo. I sanded away the old veneer and replaced it with this, which is a little thicker than the original veneer. Then I sanded down the new veneer to the right thickness, finished it, and got great results. The piece of wood I got had nice straight grain, and was of an even thickness. My peghead looks brand new, and only I'll know it's not the original veneer! I could have taken a piece of wood and cut it down in my shop, but buying it from Stewmac already planed was so much easier.
