About our mahogany neck blanks
Used in traditional guitarmaking, genuine mahogany is very stable, dense, and is one of the best woods for woodworking; it sands easily, routered edges stay crisp and sharp, and it accepts stains and finish. Unsurpassed working and finishing qualities.

While mahogany is becoming more restricted, the search for comparable alternatives has been ongoing. Sipo (pronounced see-po) is the closest we are finding to the traditional mahogany that does not have any restrictions to shipping it world wide.

Our online instructions Neck Construction Tips and Techniques include tips for adding headstock "ears," routing for a truss rod, laminating a classical guitar heel, and more.

Spanish cedar (actually neither Spanish nor cedar) is a fragrant, lighter-weight mahogany. It was used for 1800s Martin necks, and has reappeared in several new Martin steel-string models, as well as in classical guitars from custom builders.

Sipo neck wood

I am very impressed with the Sipo neck I received. Excellent quartersawn stock with nice color. My piece arrived at a thickness of well over 15/16". More like 1 1/16" which is nice for flattening, etc. though this piece is already quite flat. Highly recommended.

Quality Sipo

A good solid piece of Mahogany for a classical neck although a bit heavy. I would love to get some Spanish Cedar because it is lighter but it's a prohibited export to Australia. I like dealing with Stew Mac.

great sipo

If you are considering a mahogany neck this is a truly great material. I've ordered a few of these and all are great. Properly quartersawn and of good density. And one of them had a couple of nice dark brown fibre-stripes along, which made a really nice looking neck.

Beautiful wood with many uses

I dont make acoustics, but this is a great log for spacers in neck-through guitars, I am about to order another piece of Spanish Cedar.

High quality neck wood

This is probably the best piece of Spanish cedar I have laid my hands on. Perfectly quarter-sawn and absolutely free of any knots, it proved to be ideal for my latest concert guitar currently in progress.
