High everyone,Don the maddog luthier here to tell everyone about the side dot material available from Stewmac. Using an 1/8" drill bit,and some medium superglue is all it takes. The drill bit give a slight bit of wiggle room, which is great for the glue to get to all the surfaces, after drying I just come in with my flat surface nippers(fretting),cut, use a scraper for final surfacing. The material takes on finish very well,no complaints here. I can do 3-4 fingerboards per stick, and always try to keep some on hand.
This work great. Inexpensive and easy to install. They will easily do several necks.
As simple of a product as this is, it always does the trick. It installs easy and it looks great raw, under an oil finish and under Nitro. I even occasionally use them for face dots on the fingerboard when a small size is required.
It's exactly what you would expect. A .0625 plastic rod. I like this smaller size vastly better than the 3/32nds ones. They look more elegant in the petite size to me.
