This machined aluminum/brass jig lets you easily cut circular purfling and rosette channels, or a soundhole in a new guitar top. It attaches to our Precision Router Base, for use with your rotary tool. The jig can be precisely adjusted for 3" to 6"-diameter cuts, and includes a centerpin to mount through the soundboard and into a supporting workboard. Simply rotate the jig around the pin. The router base adjusts the cutting depth precisely.

We recommend our downcut bits for cleanest results when routing spruce.

The Soundhole/Rosette Routing Jig attaches to our Precision Router Base, Dremel, or Foredom tool, not included.

Could be improved

The jig works extremely well. The only thing missing is a coated bottom. The one I received leaves marks like pencil lead when you rotate it against the top. I used two-inch clear packing tape to solve this problem with mine.

How did I ever live without?

Was immediately modded upon taking it out of the box to cut circles up to 161mm. But otherwise I must say this tool has astonished me with it's precision, ease of use, and utility.

Well made, precision tool

Worth every penny. The quality of materials and workmanship show in the performance of this tool. It cut perfectly concentric rings for sound hole trim and a perfectly centered hole on two sound boards in 20 minutes. No practice cuts required after the initial set up. The scale for circle diameter is very accurate. I purchased the dedicated router base and circle cutting attachment from Dremel but it wasn't nearly accurate enough to do this type of work. This is a no-brainer purchase. Every guitar shop should have one of these.

Fantastic

This rosette jig along with the precision router base worked great to make a perfect cut for my rosette. The fine dial lets you shave a little at a time for a great fit. Couldn't do the rosette's without this.

Good Quality

Nice quality, good precision. Not sure why it has the 3" limitation built-in to it. I easily modified mine so that it could cut smaller diameter holes for a Ukulele. Also, one of the mounting screws that came with mine was the wrong thread type. Not a big deal, but glad I noticed before stripping the threads.

Sound hole-Rosette/Inlay Cutter

After using the rosette cutter, I find that it is a very good tool. I read previous reviews that agree with me, yet they mentioned some sort of re-design of the center pin to ensure accuracy. I find no re-design was needed- just drill your pilot hole the same size as the pin Stew-Mac gives you and you are all set. I could have made one, but why not invest in this one and give credit to the design where credit is due. Joe Andreas (J.M. Andreas Guitars)
