Like Mr Poliski I needed to resize the herringbone rosette. I found a method that worked very well for me; I diluted som PVA glue with warm water in a shallow bowl. By soaking the rosette in the glue/water mixture for a few minutes it became pliable and it was no problem to fit it into the smaller diameter channel. For safe measure I clamped a pice of acrylic over the rosette until the glue had set. The herringbone rosette turned out really nice on a parlor sixed guitar...
I bought the black/white herringbone rosette to complement the color of the ziricote back and sides of a parlor guitar build. I was able to scale down the diameter of the rosette for the smaller sound hole by inserting it into a routed template while applying a hot iron. An inner purfling adjacent to the herringbone crinkled a bit in the process but I repaired the small crinkle. While in the template it was easy to sand the rosette so it was thin enough not to weaken the parlor top.
I ordered two,quick delivery, extremely high quality items. This sort of detail would make it impractical to try constructing these yourself.. Thanks

These rosettes are great value and add a real quality to the job. They are thicker than some and don't fragment. They save hours of frustration trying to make your own, too.
I have used this rosette dozens of times, from several providers. Stew Mac's rosette is always the same; it never varies in dimension, so I can set up a cutter once and just check it at each use. I've never had to re-do one of these. I've also never had to wait for an order.
I'm building a Gibson J-45 and the steel string rosette looks amazing especially when you add colorful veneers.
