Paua AbaLam Purfling

This stuff is awesome. I use it to convert electric bass guitars to fretless. You can actually bend the pieces to match the radius of the fingerboard if you are careful. You can leave each piece "proud" by a uniform amount so the surface is perfectly smooth after sanding.

The curved pieces are perfect for a rosette. Even when sanded thin they retain their beauty.

Takes about 5 minutes to do a rosette when you don't have to cut each piece yourself...you'll save a lot of time using the strips and time is indeed money.

I used these purflings in my latest guitar in the rosette. Two different diameters, but because they are flexible, they fit realy nice.

When I opened the package I have to say for the money I spent I was quite disappointed. They make reference to the D-45 that maybe is similar in color, but definitely not in width. The penny as a reference to width is misleading because they are both small objects and don't really have anything to do with each other. One's round and the other is straight. Maybe a penny could be used as a reference to thickness. I think it would be more appropriate to use a common pencil. I think for the money you spend you should get standard width. These are a little on the narrow side.

On my current Tele project for my son, I used this Paua Abalam along with your B/W/B purfling and was very pleased with the results. Very colorful purfling and easy to work with. I used both straight and curved pieces. Your teflon strips are sized to match and were used when I glued the Koa binding and the B/W/B purfling strips into place. When I removed the teflon, the Paua Abalam fit the resulting channel perfectly and "snapped" into place as I went around the guitar. Once in place, I soaked it with CA to glued it in place. The results look terrific. You be the judge!
