Friendly Plastic® is a non-toxic plastic modeling material which softens quickly and can be formed into almost any shape by using your hands. No special tools are required. It cools and becomes very strong in just 10 minutes but can be re-softened for design changes.
Required Materials Hot water Heat resistant, non-aluminum bowl Non-stick work surface (Formica or tile countertop) Cold Water Cooking Oil Cooking Thermometer Wax Paper
Instructions 1. Heat water to 140-150 degrees F (60-66 degrees C). Add one or two drops of cooking oil to water to prevent sticking.
2. Pour pellets into hot water, let sit until transparent. Remove pellets from water when they start to stick together.
3. Shape with hands or press into caul shape. If you are making a custom caul, use a piece of wax paper between the Friendly Plastic and the piece you are clamping. This step will prevent the product from sticking in unwanted areas.
4. When you have achieved the desired shape, drop the product into cold water for about 5 minutes. To make larger forms, start with the basic shape, soften additional pellets to attach to the basic shape by heating and pressing them firmly together.
You can reshape cauls by simply dropping them back in warm water until soft.
Caution Supervise use by small children. Warm Friendly Plastic will stick to fingernail polish, acrylic, aluminum, styrofoam, PVC and certain other plastics. Friendly Plastic will soften or melt when exposed to direct sunlight or other similar heat sources.
