Before installing your pickguard, please read these instructions carefully.

1. Properly locate the bridge on the top of the instrument. Use masking tape ifnecessary.

2. The bracket will rest on the edge of the binding (photo 1) and the screw will thread in below the binding (photo 2).

3. Set the pickguard against the neck be sure the pickguard doesn’t interfere with the bridge (photo 3).

4. Place tape on the fingerboard and mark the location of the pickguard’s mounting pins. The front pin should be near the 18th fret and the rear pin around the 23rd fret (photo 4). Be sure to double-check the placement of the marks.

5. Transfer the marks onto the edge of the fingerboard.

6. The top of the pickguard should be halfway down the fingerboard/binding. The bottoms of the two pin mounting holes should be near the bottom of the fingerboard.

7. Locate the mounting bracket on the instrument (photo 3).

8. Mark the location for the mounting screw for the bracket.

9. Drill a 1/16"-diameter hole for the mounting screw and attach the bracket to the edge of the mandolin. For builders, we advise putting a small block of wood (maple or mahogany) on the inside where the mounting screw protrudes through the side of the mandolin. This will reinforce this area and insure that the bracket and the screw are secure.

10. Using a long “aviation” 1/16" drill bit or a drill bit extender, drill the two mounting holes in the side of the fingerboard.

11. The two pins are mild steel, so they can be bent to align the pickguard with the mounting bracket. They can also be bent slightly to the side to help the pins “bind” in the pinholes. This insures that the pickguard won’t work loose.

12. With the bracket attached to the instrument, mount the ebony block to the underside of the pickguard. Place paper on the top, underneath the bracket, to catch any squeeze-out. Use our #0020 Medium Super Glue, #1975 Weld-On, or #5173 epoxy to attach the bracket block to the pickguard. Photo 5 shows the block attached to the pickguard.
