Very Nice

I have been putting these on all my acoustics. Some of the abalone dots are not very colorful or noticeable. I had to send some back. If you can, order an extra set so you can pick and choose them.

Bridge Pins with Abalone Inlay

The pins were as nice as I expected them to be. They were handpicked for color; and they were pretty close to a match; as good as you could expect from natural products. They made my old beat up Martin really stand out. I have to be honest; it is difficult to say if I noticed a difference in sound quality; I think the sound is slightly brighter; but that's pretty subjective. I would always recommend you check the diameter of each pin before reaming the bridge. There were slight inconsistencies at the crown of the pins. As long as you are aware and patient if you are installing; it's not a problem. If a shop is installing with a fixture/jig; it possibly could cause a concern. Very nice!

Bone Bridge Pins with Abalone inlay

I bought the slotted pins. I've had my pins about 3-4 months now and I changed my strings for the first time since installing them. I was very disappointed as I noticed splinters of bone coming off the pins and now they are pitted. I wouldn't buy these again.

Response from StewMac

We appreciate your feedback! Bone bridge pins should last a very long time. Please make sure, when restringing your guitar, that the ball ends of the strings are seated firmly on the bridge plate. This will help avoid any unwanted chipping or splintering on your bridge pins.

The bone pins with abalone dots are of course much denser than plastic, and have an off-white "aged" look. Only problem I had was the slots caught and pinched a 56-gauge low E string. If you play mediums, you will need to file or scrape out the slot of at least one pin to fit.

One size fits all?

By

I ordered bridge pins for my '91 D-45. They arrived quickly and looked good, but they seemed small for the holes. I assumed they were "one size fits all", but another supplier offers several different sizes.
