The luthier's favorite vise is even easier to use, thanks to custom modifications: bearing-smooth operation, fast crank handwheel, and urethane/hardwood swivel jaws.

Custom modifications make it the best!
Don't mistake our vise for one of the many copycats! We've customized our Guitar Repair Vise to give it bearing-smooth operation that you won't find elsewhere. Turn the fast-crank handwheel and you'll immediately feel the difference.

Customized four ways:
1. Fast-crank handwheel with removable handle
2. Roller bearings for fast smooth opening/closing
3. Protective urethane surfaces on custom hardwood jaws
4. Nylon-core adjustable tension nuts control 360° jaw rotation

A good vise is the central hub of your workshop. Every repair or building job benefits from a solid, secure vise, and if it's actually a pleasure to use that's all the better!

Our Guitar Repair Vise is 32 pounds of steel that rotates full-circle to position the work for comfortable access. Each inch-thick hardwood jaw rotates too, with forgiving urethane surfaces to hold instruments of any shape/any size. This vise holds a the tapered angles of a neck securely without needing any shims. Nylon-core adjustment nuts set the tension on the rotating jaws, so you can let them spin loosely or hold their angle. The vise jaws open to a maximum of 6" (15.24cm).

We've built in a roller bearing so the vise opens and adjusts smoothly - and added a crank handle to make it speedy. (The handle's conveniently removable, too.)

The sturdy base can be installed under your workbench for 8" vise height, or on top for 9-3/4" height. The threaded mounting rod and large wingnut mount the vise quickly on any benchtop up to 4-1/2" thick.

Great but expensive added costs

By StevieB from Essex, England
(Customer's Reviews) Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Thought very hard about buying this. Did I want one? yes, do I need one? mmm. Well I decided that I did. Now the actual cost of the vice is fine no real bother with that, good tools cost a little bit more. But the P&P and the import charges added quite a bit to the bill. Now while I'm not a luthier, I am a time-served craftsman and worked for many years as a fitter/tool maker/turner so I do know my way around a tool box. The build quality is good, as is the finish. The action of the vice is smooth and easy and the jaws are safe, holding jobs securely. Very happy with it so far, though will probably replace the nylock nuts with spring washers at some point.

Get a grip!

I struggled for years with soft-jaws, and vises made for other things, but now shop life is much more pleasant, and the air is no longer blue ;-). One addition, I have zip-tied a small sponge to the rails under the jaws to avoid dings from the inevitable drop from the jaws!

Better than I expected.

When I ordered this guitar repair vise / pattern makers vice, I was expecting it to work well, what I didn't expect, for that price, was that it would be such a robust solid tool that was so easy to use. An excellent addition to my workshop.

What was life like before this?

By Hilmar Hansson from Rhode Island
(Customer's Reviews) Thursday, July 18, 2013

I installed this vise in a corner of my worktable and now cannot remember what life was like before I had this. I agree with Rock'n R Guitars, it is like a microwave, you cannot image not having one. In the picture I am using the vise to hold a jig for carving an octave mandolin neck ... How did I do that before???
Pros: nicely thought-out vise, I like the fact that the vise and the pads of the vise swivel. Cons: very rough casting, my vise is mechanically ok but the casting has some real rough spots on the outer parts of the vice. This is the only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

Can't live without.

This by far is the best guitar vise I own. Kind of like a Microwave. Life before it was like living in the dark ages.
