Precision Router Base

About This Item

A more stable way to support your Dremel. Our sturdy, compact base is the best way to hold a Dremel for freehand routing, inlaying, widening fret slots and more.

Made of machined steel, brass and aluminum, it features precision cutting depth adjustment with large thumbwheels to eliminate guesswork.

Designed especially for stringed instrument work.
  • Excellent control
  • Easy installation
  • Accurate freehand routing
Sturdy, compact, and adjustable
Each turn of the large knurled thumbwheels adjusts your Dremel's cutting depth by .035" (.889mm). You can rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for less sanding later.

Tall twin handles give you excellent control for freehand routing, and you get a good view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a mini air pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

And here's a tip from Dan Erlewine: clamp the Dremel and router base upside-down on your workbench, and use the bottom of the router base as a mini drum sander, as Dan Erlewine did for a Gibson L-1 archtop bridge in this issue of our Trade Secrets Newsletter.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

Make your Dremel a more versatile guitar shop tool.

Just buy it

I have 3 and want more.
I like to dedicate a router bit/size/depth to each one so I don't have to constantly adjust anything for every new job.
The larger adjustment knobs are must nicer than the older knobs.
Pinky up for classier inlay.

I have a machine shop and weld shop and usually make all my own tooling but this was a great deal at the price. My time is precious to me these days so don't hesitate to buy this tool it is worth it.

Improves our inlay works to the fullest! We used to carve our inlay designs by hand... now it's more precise, accurate, and clean. More inlay projects coming up! Thanks.

This router base replaces my old Dremel base that was worn out. I did a web search for a router base to use with my new Foredom machine and came across this unit. I'm so glad that I did! For only a few dollars more than the cost of the Dremel base, you will get a unit that is MILES ahead in quality. The Dremel only lasted a year before the plastic screws were stripped out and would not hold the motor securely. This base should last my lifetime and be passed down after I am gone. It holds a Dremel motor securely and also works great with my threaded Foredom handpiece (bought from Stewart-McDonald). My only regret was not throwing the Dremel base away and buying this one sooner! It's true...you get what you pay for!

used it to cut two inlays and had to quit to finish another project, so not a really honest review. Will do some more in a couple of days but for now great.
