Tremolo Spring Installer

About This Item

Makes tricky tremolo spring installation easy. A word of advice: pliers are NOT the right tool for installing tremolo springs!

Pliers slip and the spring goes flying off to ding the guitar's finish or scrape your knuckles. Here's a better way: a simple, inexpensive 6" steel hook that's the right length to make stubborn spring installation remarkably easy. It gives you a straight non-slip pull—you'll wonder how you got along without it! It helps protect your fingers as well as your guitar.

It works but it isn't the best way to install the springs.

I have mixed feelings about this tool. On the one hand, it does what it is supposed to do. On the other hand, it isn't the best tool for the job.

A better approach is to use a simple philips head screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the tremolo claw in place. Once the screws are loosened, the springs can be easily and safely installed by hand. The same philips head screwdriver should then be used to tighten the screws. These screws generally need to be adjusted to make certain that the tremolo bridge is properly installed so there isn't any extra work involved.

In my experience, this is the safer way to install the springs. No sharp, hooked tool is needed which means there is no chance that the tool will come loose and damage the finish on the guitar or injure the skin on my hands. The springs aren't installed under a great deal of tension which makes them far less likely to become rogue projectiles flying around the room.

Tool is easy to use. The little finger is a lot stronger than it looks.

No sweating installing additional springs!

I bought the tremolo spring installer just for the sake of trying something that would avoid my sweating when trying to put an additional spring in the tremolo... I was not very convinced it would work... I just tried it in a FR tremolo installation and went like a breeze! Love it!

Okay for removal, but I will stick with braided twine!!

These are handy for yanking out springs, but i am sticking with my old standby, braided surveyor's twine for installations that matter. Twine does not damage finishes, and it always works great. It's also super cheap. This is still a good tool for pulling springs in a hurry, or doing beater guitar installs in a hurry, but for anything pristine, with a magical finish, I'll use the braided nylon surveyor's dumpy twine. Get a loop of it worked into the spring coil, pull, hook the spring, and remove the twine. This tool is faster, but....... I have large scraps of leather I drape over AAAAA tops, and AAAAA backs to keep them scratch free. They all have strategically placed holes, for accessing cavities, & routes. Why risk using a metal hook?

Great little tool! Saves a lot of frustration (and sore fingers)!

After trying small pliers, flat-head screwdrivers, etc., I decided to give this a try. In short, glad I did! Works great as a tool for fishing wires through cavities on solid body and archtop guitars, too.

Excellent for tremolo springs, but I've found myself using it in other ways, such as grabbing at wires inside a guitar.

Its Well Worth The Money

For the price of a cheeseburger and french fries you can have the correct tool for putting bridge springs on guitars. I'm always paranoid that I'll slip when using pliers to install springs. I can't imagine slipping and scratching a customer's guitar. To me this is worth the peice of mind and makes the job so much easier.

I replaced 5 tremolo springs with no trouble on my cruise guitar. If I can do it almost anyone can use it with ease. Very nice tool for my shop. Joe from PENNA

Yup I used this to install tremolo springs in my Squier Strat. Worked just like it's supposed to. But I give it Bonus Points for installing a hard to reach spring on the drive of my lawn mower.
