Binding Router Bit Set

About This Item

Rout clean, precise ledges for practically any binding combinations.

Our clean-cutting carbide-tipped cutter has a 1/4" shank to fit your router, an Allen screw with wrench for installing a depth-of-cut bearing, and a special extension bushing for "stairstep" ledges.

Money-saving sets add depth-of-cut bearings sized specifically for binding routing jobs, and for flush-trimming guitar tops and backs. Instructions included. Router bit and bearings are also available separately.

Tip: All our bearings are now sized for exact cutting depth. Remember to allow for swelling of wood fibers from gluing, as well as for the thickness of the glue itself. Glued plastic binding will swell considerably as it absorbs the glue solvents. Wood bindings glued with wood glues that contain water will swell also. To minimize final scraping and sanding, we recommend installing a short length of binding on routed scrap wood first, to test the fit.

Limited width of cut

By
(Customer's Reviews)

The bearings and cutters are fine, just disappointed that the widest cut available is only .210. Standard wood binding is .080 wide and herringbone purling is .140 wide, requiring a .220 wide channel (and that makes no allowance for possible swelling of binding/purfling when moistened by glue). Am I missing something here?

Yeah it's expensive but...

This really is a five star review, to be honest. The cutter is super clean, and I'm really glad I went for the full set - every considerable binding thickness and size is catered for. But, it is expensive.

The price does not seem to match the quality

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I have used this product on three guitars so far and I have a few criticisms. I did not find that the bearings matched exactly with the measurements on the included chart which makes selecting the right bearing difficult. After the first few passes the corner on the cutting bit had already worn down which now means the channels lack a sharp 90degree cut. Generally I have found the bit to dull quickly. The bearings do not spin easily enough to stop some denting and damage as it runs along the side. On the third time using one of the bearings it ceased completely badly damaging the side. I may have been unlucky with the quality of my particular kit but I have not found this product to be value for money.
