Feeler Gauges

About This Item

A set of 6" x 1/2" steel gauges that allow precision filing of nut slot depths.

Simply stack the appropriate gauges on the fingerboard, against the front edge of the string nut, and file the nut slot down to the top of the stack.

These gauges are also useful for checking string-to-fret clearances and fret slot width, for hardware installation work, and for setting up shop tools.

Gauges include .016", .018", .020", .022", .024", .026", .028", .030", .032", .034" and .040" thicknesses.

The Feeler Gauges are included in the Essential Nut Making Tool Kit, which has all the basic tools you'll need for shaping, string-spacing, slotting and fitting string nuts like a pro.

Sorry I didn't buy them sooner

I received a guitar kit as a gift. It came with a plastic nut. When the guitar was done, I decided to remove the plastic nut and install a bone nut. I easily cut it to size, shaped it and glued it into place. I already owned a set of Stewart-MacDonald files so cutting the slots was relatively easy. However, determining the depth was nerve racking. Now that I own the feeler gauges, I can check my work and see if I can make the slots a little deeper to improve the string action. I would have experienced far less anxiety had I ordered these gauges when I bought the files. The best feature is that the "leafs" are long enough so that you can easily "stack" them for a more precise measurement. I'm sorry I didn't buy them sooner.

 Need odd sized feeler gauges

I bought this set to use with the stew mac safe nut. Interestingly while the video for the safe nut shows Don using odd sized gauges the feeler gauge set includes only even sized gauges. If nothing else an odd sized gauge set in addition to this set.

I was teaching my son how to cut & shape a vintage bone nut for a gibson les paul, and we needed these feeler gauges to be able to get the right height on the string slots. It was the first nut that he had done and these gauges made his job so much easier. Thanks for a good product that really works well. Bill K.

Well made and useful, but needs to have smaller sizes so it can be used to measure neck relief and action.

If only the sizes got small enough to check action and relief this would be perfect.
