CTS Push-pull Pots, SPST

About This Item

Top quality CTS control pots with a switch on the back. Add a switch to your guitar wiring without drilling a new hole.

The built-in single-pole single-throw switch is electrically separate from the control pot. You might use this switch to coil-cut a humbucker, or use it as a dedicated on/off switch for a pickup.

Split shaft versions are designed for press-fit knobs. Solid shafts are for set-screw knobs. The long shaft #0223 fits carved-top solidbodies and other guitars with thicker tops.

CTS pots have long been the first choice in American guitars. CTS pots from StewMac have even more to like: closer tolerances and longer life!

We've specified these CTS pots to feature a longer-life brass shaft and tighter ±10% resistance tolerance compared to CTS products offered by most other suppliers.

CTS precision audio taper gives you smoother and more accurate response than you'll get with economy pots. Crank your guitar up to 10 and the volume swells all the way—no abrupt flattening to choke your playing style.

Available with split shaft for fine-knurled (24-spline) knob, or with smooth shaft to fit a set-screw knob. A long-shaft 500K-ohm version fits Les Paul style carved-top solidbodies.

Each CTS pot includes a flat washer, lock washer, and two hex mounting nuts for custom height adjustment on a pickguard or control plate.

Which pot value should you choose?
500K pots are standard controls for humbuckers, and 250Ks are usually used for single-coil pickups. A 250K gives a slightly warmer tone than a 500K, and bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Replacement Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers are also available.

simple coil split.

this pot is great, it makes a complex job very easy. I like how this pot does its job without all the extra options. I believe with less wire and componants you get a more pure tone. I used it to split a golden age A5 bridge p/u. Did the JPLP wiring and added a .15uf cap in the neck with the A5 Parson's street. Gave my Epi dot a sound of Whole notes, and full of SOUL. Blown away! Also got the two pickups, wire, caps, pots, ect all for about $150(same price as a "G" 57' classic!

I received a split coil pot that would not function. They immediately sent me another to replace it. Got to love that type of customer service to back up your business. Now that's what brings people back!

Glad I found these here

These push-pull pots are very handy for adding extra features to the amp or instrument that only require a simple connection, without drilling extra holes. I had been looking for these in 250k resistance for a while, as they seem to be rather hard to find. Many other outlets stock the more common 1meg and 10k size, but StewMac had exactly what I needed, and shipped them to me very quickly.

Good switch, but something you should consider...(see below)

The Pot: Great, tapering nicely and performing as expected.

The Push\Pull aspect: Great - BUT, if you intend to replace an existing pot using the previous knob, you may want to consider replacing the knob. Many plastic volume/tone knobs use vertical fluting to create friction when you rotate the pot. The same flutes that give you more friction when turning the knob, give you less friction as you try to pull it up, since the fluting is now parallel, rather than perpendicular to the motion. A metal knob with criss-crossed fluting would work well.

Final consideration - the black (plastic) chassis that sits atop (when the pot is inverted) effectively covers the "bottom" of the pot. You can solder your ground wires to the side of the pot of course, but you may not think of that at purchase time. I mention it just so that you will. It's not a hassle, just a consideration.
