Kit is good, Free Wiring Diagram, not so much.

I have a Gibson Les Paul Custom and it's relic-ed the old fashioned way, by playing it almost every day for 15 or 20 years. A little too dear to routinely take out into the mud the blood and the beer.

I decided to get a "Les Paul Like" guitar for cheap and upgrade it. I happened to get an Xaviere XV-500. You can have one of these delivered to your door for about $260.00 brand new. I got mine used for $160.00.

I installed this kit and had an instantly, noticeably better guitar. Nice improvement! From this I will say that these are quality components and certainly worth their price.

The problem I had was the "Free Wiring Diagram." I've never wired a Les Paul. I've done very little guitar wiring. I didn't know there was more than one way to do it. I couldn't figure their Wiring Diagram out, at all. Not to worry, I knew what to do. Go to StewMac website and find the video of Dan Erlewine showing his peeps how the big boys do it and making us aware of the tools that will make the job easier. Ahhh, I couldn't find that video.

YouTube was more confusion. What I did know is I wanted to get it right the first time. I was baffled. Then I thought, "Ahhh, dude, you have a Gibson Les Paul in the next room. Why don't you wire it like that one?" So I did and I did get it right the first time. It's wired with the "Modern" wiring. I don't know if that's how this kit is supposed to be wired but it seems to work fine and it was a nice upgrade.

Now, after the fact, I can recommend a YouTube video that is an excellent and clear guide for the "Modern or Vintage" wiring methods. DIY Les Paul Wiring - Vintage versus Modern by Breja ToneWorks.

with Alpha pots to fit Epiphone

This kit does the job and has all you need.

However, at least in my Epiphone, the switch is a tight fit and doesn't allow you to rotate it in place to line up the switching up and down perfectly. And if your model of Epiphone has narrow routes for the wiring, it is probably better to use a 4 conductor wire from switch to pots instead of the included shielded circuit wires. My LP Classic has wide routes. And my LS100 has narrow routes...

Also the alpha pots are narrower to fit the Epiphone holes. They are not the best pots and tend to taper off suddenly. Once in awhile a few are doa. I would rather get CTS pots and a reamer to make the wood holes wider.

When I found this product at a very reasonable price, and when my guitar at the same time wasn't in the greatest shape i decided to upgrade the electronics. these parts easily fit inside my guitar and wiring it up with the free schematic was very simplified and easy to understand. Great quality, great price and simply great in everyday possible!! Thanks Stew-mac! (Photo is showing how I set up my guitar. After soldering it together outside the guitar I then put it in the guitar, and started rocking out!)

The right parts at a good price. Sound quality is right up there. You may need additional wire depending on your guitar & wiring options. Very satisfied.
