Beyond Cool

(Customer's Reviews)

I don't know where to start. I had a China Epi SG which sounded like crap. The body was excellent and the neck was spot on, but the sound was noise and screeching. I decided to scrap everthing else and start over. I bought a pair of Seymor Duncun 59 humbuckers and the SM premium wiring kit. The kit had everything I needed to completely wire up the new pickups. I really like the instructions and diagram they provided and followed their schematic and when I was finished, added new face plates and knobs and wow what a guitar. This cheep China guitar is what an SG should be. The guitar is absolutely quiet when your not playing and it sits in the stand and playing is a whole new experience. This is my first time doing this and won't be the last. The wiring kit pots and all are the best quality out there and when I told a couple guitar builders, they said how did I come up SM? I told them I researched and they came up on top and they assured me I got it right the first. I will come to SM for any future projects. They are top drawer.

Excellent kit, easy to install

(Customer's Reviews)

This was my first complete rebuild of the guitar electronics. Kit had everything I needed including instructions/ diagrams. It took me less than an hour to remove the old electronics and install the new stuff. Guitar sounds great. No noise.

What a difference.

(Customer's Reviews)

I bought this kit for my 90's Epiphone G400(SG). The pots were getting real scratchy and the switch felt really loose. So I bought this kit mostly to replace worn out parts, but thought it may improve tone as well. A friend recommended I wire my guitar 50's style. I found a good youtube video and followed it step by step. I could tell a big difference in tone right away. I still run stock pickups so i didn't expect too much, but the difference was noticeable. It was a smoother sound. I have a small practice amp, and before the distortion sounded fizzy. That is gone now and it sounds fat, clear, and warm. I would recommend doing this upgrade before or in conjunction with a pickup swap. The beefier caps and thicker wire do make a difference. I am very happy.

A couple things to note. There was almost no room between the legs on the switch and the volume pots. At first my bridge pickup didn't work because the switch was touching the pot. Just a heads up. This may not be an issue on your guitar but it was on mine.

The switch cap is Amber, which looks dumb on my Cherry Red SG, and the speed knobs that came with my guitar will not fit the new pots. Had to make a second order to get a new switch cap and knobs, but thank you Stew mac for having those parts available for a reasonable price.

All in all I highly recommend this kit.

For a guitar you care about

(Customer's Reviews)

I recently bought a '78 Ibanez Musician, a beautiful guitar and a dead ringer for the first guitar I ever bought with my own hard earned money as a teenager. It was poorly rewired with the cheapest pots and switch - it just deserved better. This kit is great, as long as you are acquainted with cloth wire and vintage shielded. It looks great if I do say so myself. And really, the Switchcraft switch is truly superior. However, I discovered upon installation that I had to choose between the premium kit and the original Ibanez Knobs, which fit Alpha pots. So I got some Gibson knobs; no harm done.......Five Stars!!!

Huge Difference!!

(Customer's Reviews)

I used this kit to re-wire my 2012 Gibson American Standard SG which came with 300k pots and cheap film capacitors. The jack was always spotty from the factory and the guitar always sounded much duller than I thought it should for an SG with BurstBuckers. These 500k pots and orange drop caps make a TREMENDOUS difference! The sound is so much more open and clear and soulful. This is by far the best upgrade for your SG!!
