Morris Strat Redivivus

By

Easy to fit for a very nervous first-time solderer. Sounds much better than the originals on a 1982 Japanese Morris Strat, originally bought for the equivalent of $40. Also added a Gotoh bridge — makes all the difference, as the original bridge was really substandard.

Loaded Strat Pickguard A+

Thumbs up on this. I was tasked with loading a stripped down Squire. This was a very economical and quick way to do it.
The supplied Pguard was cheap-looking (expected for the price) and would have lined up with the existing holes "fairly well". I opted to remove the parts and mount to the guitars original guard. No problems, sounds great!

Black Pre-wired Pickguard Assembly

By

I ordered this item to replace the pickguard and pick-ups on a pawn shop-rescued 2002 Indonesian-made Squier Stratocaster. After a complete refurbishing of the guitar body, I didn't really want to spend too much on the electronics to start with, so this item fit my needs. I have only two complaints. First, the screw holes did not line up very well, but I expected this from previous experiences on other guitars. I realize that having a one-size-fits-all pickguard is impractical and I made adjustments as needed. Second, it would be nice if the bridge pickup was wired to the tone control, at least as an option. Aside from these two issues, the pickguard made a worn guitar look much better, and the pickups sound really good considering the affordable price. They have more body to their sound than my stock Fender Telecaster's pickups and they sound good with overdrive. The service I received from Stewart-MacDonald was excellent. I am a first time customer and I will continue to be a customer. I think my three star rating is fair considering the extra holes I had to drill to fit the pickguard, and having to wire the bridge pickup to the tone control myself. All things considered, I can recommend this item to someone looking to replace some old and worn out parts on a cheaper project guitar or a pawn shop rescue of an otherwise well-built guitar. It is an excellent value and choice for someone on a tight budget that is looking for a decent sounding set of generic strat pickups.

Not Exact Fit

By
(Customer's Reviews)

Was hoping to pop this prewired assembly right into my Epiphone S-310 Start copy. Unfortunately, the screw holes did not lineup and the electronics and switch were slightly offset. Rather than routing out the newly refinished body, I elected to swap out the pickups, pots and switch back over to my 30 year old pick guard which fit the body precisely. Still a work in progress.

Great Tone

The quality of SM has always been consistently good, and I have bought enough product from this company that makes me more than qualified to make such a statement. However, this last purchase was a bit of a disappointment. The pups sound very good but the pickguard was very poorly made. The edges were unfinished and the it looked like I took an exato knife and carved it out myself by hand.
I still think SM is a quality outfit, I was just disappointed that they would send such a poorly made pickguard.
Would I purchase from SM again? Absolutely, but I felt I needed to make this known to them.

Easy to install and sounds great

I bought a used Chinese Squire Strat for $100.00 with a case. Honestly, I wanted the case. The guitar sounded like crap. I found this pre wired pickguard assembly and figured what can it hurt. Can't be any worse, so I bought one. Took about 1/2 hour to install including restringing it and soldering and adjusting the pick ups and sounds really nice now. Well worth the money and minimal effort to install

I adapted it to my Old Kraftsman Guitar

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought a blank sheet of pick guard and cut the openings to fit the Old Kraftsman guitar while I removed the pickups and switches from the pickguard assembly. It sounds great, and the wires were long enough between pickups that it adapted well to the openings in the Old Kraftsman. I used a dremel tool, a drill and bits, some sandpaper and one solder connection. I can't believe how jerry rigging this old guitar brought it back to life! For about $50.00 it is a helluva deal.

Great for the money

I ordered one of these for an Indonesian Squier Strat whose pots were pretty much shot, and whose pickups weren't too great either. It fit perfectly. Dropped in in less than an hour. All I had to do was was remove the old pickguard assembly, solder to output jack and bridge, and screw the new one in. It sounds great, and it was cheaper than even buying pickups and pots separately.
