Kent Armstrong Suspended Jazz Humbucker

About This Item

For archtop guitar, no routing needed!
A mellow mini humbucker for archtop jazz guitar.

No routing is needed — the brackets attach to the end of the fingerboard, suspending the pickup above the guitar top in the Johnny Smith style. The Alnico V blade polepieces and coils are epoxy-sealed for feedback suppression, with exposed solder lugs.

Pickup dimensions 2-23/32" x 1-1/8" x 1/2" (69.06mm x 28.58mm x 12.70mm)
Bracket spacing 2-1/4" (57.15mm)

7.6K ohms.

Lead wires are not included. We recommend our Humbucker Hookup Wire, or our Basic Wiring Package.

Outstanding product and service

I purchased this pickup for installation on a battered old Harmony Monterrey which was given to me. The installation and wiring instructions were so clear and easy to follow that even a fuzzy-headed old amateur with a drill and soldering iron like myself could have the pickup, volume pot, and output jack wired up and in place in under 2 hours. You should hear that old girl sing! String balance is perfect, and the bluesy, old-timey tones coming out of this vintage instrument are just what I was hoping for. Shipping was fast and inexpensive - you've got a customer for life. Thanks!!! Rob Neuberger

Great pickup on Gretsch Archtop

Installed this pickup on one of the Newer gretsch archtops (and added CTS vol and tone pots). What a unique sound from this set up. Clear, balanced authentic tone. A favorite acoustic set up of mine. J

nice pickup by Kent Armstrong

The purchased Kent Armstrong 'jazz' mini humbucker attaches to the end of the fingerboard with a minimum of difficulty with no pick up rout.It sounds very mellow, maybe not quite so loud as a full sized humbucker but OK for this kind of application. The humbucker is fitted to a guitar I made which is hollow but only 50 mm thick including a 6 mm maple top and back. It's roughly LP size and single cutaway. I was surprised by how good the pickup sounds when over driven.I used 250k pots, volume and tone and a 0.1 capacitor.

With all the information available at stewmac project was almost idiot proof. And the end result was far better than anticipated. The pick up is warm and makes the guitar an incredible sounding package.

good sound, wrong model...

By

I recently built my first Jazz acoustic Archtop from Benedetto's book. A success. I chose this pickup over Benedetto's pickup because of it's lower price.

The sound is amazing but I recently found out that Kent Armstrong carry a model which is glued to the underside of the fingerrest instead of this type of fixation - that would have been much easier to install because this interfered with my fingerrest type of fixation. Furthermore, Kent Armstrong also carry a model with adjustable string posts like a humbucker which would make the adjustment easier, especially if you consider that this type of pickup is not height-adjustable once it's installed. Better get it right!

Nonetheless, the sound is amazing and the look is very very nice.
